Bourbon Street in New Orleans, Louisiana has long been known for jazz and its’ street artists. On a visit several years ago, my husband and I came across this woman playing the clarinet and couldn’t believe it. The sound that came out was overwhelming. She isn’t a professional. She’s a woman trying to make a living for herself and her daughter. Be sure to take note her daughter patiently waiting while sitting in front of the red van. This isn’t a professional video but someone should make one.

Pete Fountains is a professional musician who has played with many of the great jazz artists in New Orleans.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. Music in the Quarter is magical! Thank you for tugging those sweet memories!

    • I forgot it’s called the French Quarter. Thanks for reminding me. I may add that to the description. I love it there. Jaz is still alive b ut the interest is waning. I hope not. It’s a part of our history. We love New Orleans. It’s the best example of South in my book.
Glad it stirred some memories for you.

p.s. don’t you just love those big magnolia trees and houses with their wrap around porches??? ~~~~ : – )

      • I do love so many things about the south; wrap around porches, magnolias are among them, as well as moss draped trees, slower paced life, manners, the food and coffee. 😀 Yes, it is called the French Quarter … but the locals refer to it as “the Quarter”! Thank you for sharing your memories of it. Among my favorites is the sound of a bass sax bouncing and traveling through out … especially in the evening!

    • Doreen had us mesmerized with her unique sound. Her daughter sat there with her coloring book patiently waiting and enjoying the people admiring her mother play. She was a very proud little girl.
I love watching people expressing their talent. She was indeed worth every second we stayed there listening. ~~~ : -)

    • hahaha .. you put a smile on my face, Frizz, with the reminder of the post I did the
last time there was an “I” challenge. I loved that post. I had deleted it awhile ago. I may
      have to post again.
This woman in the video plays the clarinet with so much feeling and really well. The clarinet
holds lots of meaning for us since we met in band in high school while both of us played
clarinet (he was much, much better than I was).
Thanks again for hosting the challenges and for coming by and commenting.

  7. Truly lovely – the clarinet and the sax would be my two favorite instruments – they are both capable of such sound that it can draw the emotion from deep inside and give it form.

  8. The woman playing the clarinet is amazing!…really stunning sound she creates! wow! And Pete Fountain’s sound is sublime…both magical. Thank you for posting these.
(this afternoon, I was listening to clarinet in a classical piece: Adagio from Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major…. soooo beautiful, too….we heard that piece played a few weeks ago, just before a talk by the DalaiLama, with him sitting there listening too…also exquisitely beautiful sound…the music of the clarinet can transport one…far above…or beyond?)
