Memories are a way of holding on to the people, pets and things you love.
You might be wondering, “How memories can nurture you?”
We all carry with us deep inside our beings every moment we’ve lived. It’s a treasure chest of good and bad memories. There are unpleasant moments we wish had never happened to us. Dreadful times, we wish we could erase.
Walking along with these miseries are the precious treasures we see as priceless. There are the memories of our parents who gave us life and fostered us to follow their guided path; there is the birth of our children we feel we miraculously created; there is a spouse or partner whose joined us on our journey to new horizons walking alongside of us.
Tattered edges all around those treasures are the times when our beings felt anguish, despair and sorrow. Those memories linger still; like worn and ragged photographs that are fading from time. You keep them in a secret room in your mind like a precious package of heirlooms. This love is deep in your heart but must be left behind. Yet, we cannot forget.
It’s important to look at our memories and love the ones we feel nurture us and discard or make peace with those we still find painful in our hearts.

Lasting memories keep those we love close forever. Although words seem to say so little, I hope they help in some small way to spare the sense of loss that you’re experiencing today. Hold fast to your memories, to all of the cherished moments of the past, to the blessings and the laughter, the joys and the celebrations, the sorrow and the tears. They all add up to a treasure of fond yesterdays that you shared and spent together. They keep the one you loved close to you in spirit and thought. Those special moments and memories in your life will never change. They will be in your heart today and evermore.
Sometimes the sweetest memories shine through the deepest sadness … with sympathy!!!

Memories
Memories are precious treasures
God has willed to you and me
To endure old age and suffering
With the joys (that used to be);
They are never worn or faded
By the trials and tears of time
For their threads of woven pleasures
In the heart of yours and mine;
And for memories of heartache,
That we made and left behind
That is painful to remember,
Very tearful and unkind
He endears us with the mercy
And the Grace, in common prayer,
That forgives us for transgressions
And denies us their despair

Some would say that laying too much emphasis on what was takes away from staying in the present. I’d say that staying stuck there is when regret and anger and rancour rules over those memories. What is important as you say, is to hold on to the memories that nurtured one’s joy and have them reinforce the joy of the present moment and to come to terms with what didn’t and move on.
Haven’t been around for a while. But it is so nice catching up slowly. Hope you’ve been well 🙂

So touching and so true. I guess we are both at that stage of life where we stop to evaluate those precious moments in the past, the people who were a part of our lifes…and how these temper the more difficult parts of living and aging.
