Nurture Yourself – with Love and Compassion

The greatest degree of inner tranquility comes from the development of love and compassion. The more we care for the happiness of others, the greater is our sense of well-being.
Tenzin Gyatso-the 3rd Dalai Lama

ANGEL - Purple FlowersWhat is compassion?

It’s a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. info marion dictionary

From birth, we are part of a community called family. The bond is our connection to security and survival. There are situations where our biological family does not serve that well. We become the sufferers due to horrific acts such as child abuse and abandonment. The lack of love and compassion leaves us lost. It heightens stress because we feel loneliness and isolation. Our ability to be compassionate to others fails as we have no guideline. Sometimes, the compassion comes from somewhere else such as drugs, alcohol or other destructive behaviors.

We need to develop a compassionate love for ourselves in order to give it to others. Self-healing provides an avenue for us to share heartfelt compassion. Being kind to yourself allows you to feel and sense the love and compassion you may have missed but are drawing into your body, mind and spirit today.
Give yourself permission to let it in.

Transcendence (Orchestral)- Lindsey Stirling

This video ‘Transcendence’ is of violinist, Linda Sterling. She is being accompanied by the ‘Landfill Philharmonic Orchestra’ a.k.a. the Recycled Orchestra.
The orchestra is made up of one teacher plus kids and teens from the slums of Paraguay. They wanted to create music and share it with others but had no resources for instruments. They made their instruments from trash from the landfill.
Their message to everyone is that everyone has a voice and every individual – no matter who you are – has the power to inspire change for good.

The answer is simple: we have the capacity to consciously recognize and feel our “common humanity” without denying our differences. Life has evolved a human mind/brain that provides us with the ability to put ourselves in the shoes of others, even those outside of our community. We can identify with our common human similarities rather than emphasize our differences.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

This speaks beautifully to my life as the youngest child born to a single mom herself struggling to survive. Compassion for others has become the cornerstone of my own life, founded upon having compassion for myself first…

  6. Thank you for this. Compassion is a cornerstone of my life exactly for the reason you mention…feeling bereft of security and survival as the youngest of 9 whose single mother was herself struggling to survive. Appreciative hugs for putting it so succinctly…

  9. Compassion is a truly noble goal for which to strive. I couldn’t agree more with what you said. It’s odd, though, that compassion can be used to as a way to force one’s agenda on another person. I had this happen to me very recently. In the name of compassion, someone very close to me hurt me deeply. She said I needed to change because she saw a better way for me to handle my life. She said she spoke out of compassion for me, yet there was no kindness in her words. In fact, she was stone cold, not shedding a tear when I was sobbing with both shock and pain. Still she kept using the word “compassion.”

I think that she confused compassion with something else, although she thought she was acting compassionately to “save my life.” What she failed to comprehend in her heart is that my life does not need saving by her. A truly compassionate person would understand that. If she had concerns about me, a compassionate approach would have been to speak with me, not at me.

Unfortunately, this person is my sister and I have been trying to mend the relationship that was seriously wounded on the day she chose to “compassionately” confront me. My efforts have failed.

Sorry for this long response. It’s just that your choice of topic pushed a tender button in me…
