Button : a Mundane Sensory Poem

Buttons & brass.web

Buttons
what are buttons?

So lifeless.
They sit looping our lives together.

Buttons are small
and unimportant,
but sometimes

we need them
during our tangled hours.
Buttons roll around the nation
seeing sights,

astounding
but also forgotten points in life.

Even seeing those vista’s,

the most important sight
happens at night.

When the button jumps
and clamps
its slick,
glossy round edge,

to the loop
who sits alone.
Waiting for someone
to join them.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  4. I love to handle old smooth buttons in a tin. I wish I knew what happened to my mother’s buttons. So rarely do I sew a button anymore.
    Love your poetry, too.

    • My 2 jars of buttins are in my laundry room waiting to be made into something.
I don’t sew anymore but I can’t part with them. Who knows … one day they may
be extinct. Well, that’s s carey thought. lol thanks, Ruth for your visit and thoughts.

  5. As a person who loves to sew, I have a love affair with buttons. I also love this poem. Buttons hold things together and shield us. They decorate us, too. They are magic little things. 🙂

    • ….. as we all wish to connect to something or someone in life.
They were a few thoughts that came to mind when I came across
my 2 jars of buttons. I will keep them as they are pretty and
in the future may be a thing of the past. Can you imagine that?
      I can’t but one never knows. ~~~~~ : – )
