Button : a Mundane Sensory Poem
Buttons
what are buttons?
So lifeless.
They sit looping our lives together.
Buttons are small
and unimportant,
but sometimes
we need them
during our tangled hours.
Buttons roll around the nation
seeing sights,
astounding
but also forgotten points in life.
Even seeing those vista’s,
the most important sight
happens at night.
When the button jumps
and clamps
its slick,
glossy round edge,
to the loop
who sits alone.
Waiting for someone
to join them.

Buttons seem to be an item that many, many children played with on grandparent visits.

I used to do the same thing when I was growing – play with my grandmothers button box. There were so many and lot sod shapes and textures. 😊
Thanks for the invite. I appreciate your thinking of me. Blessings to you, Laurie. 😊

I love to handle old smooth buttons in a tin. I wish I knew what happened to my mother’s buttons. So rarely do I sew a button anymore.
Love your poetry, too.

My 2 jars of buttins are in my laundry room waiting to be made into something.
I don’t sew anymore but I can’t part with them. Who knows … one day they may
be extinct. Well, that’s s carey thought. lol thanks, Ruth for your visit and thoughts.

As a person who loves to sew, I have a love affair with buttons. I also love this poem. Buttons hold things together and shield us. They decorate us, too. They are magic little things. 🙂

hahaha … just a playful mind at play. Buttons don’t seem to be an important
part of garments now-a-days. I always look at the buttons before I buy a blouse.
I think it add to the design. I guess it’s the artist in me. I’ll keep my 2 button jars
as I think they will be even more special in the future.
Have you made any quilts lately??? How about some show and tell with one in the
future? ❤ hugs ❤

Don’t dare leave them behind … no … you will wonder why you did.
I think some things, even something as mundane as a button, has
a connection to us. AND … you never know, you may replace the buttons
on a blouse that doesn’t have pretty ones on it. : )
Hope you are taking your move week. It’s always a difficult thing – moving.
Blessings to you and your hubby on your new journey. Peace

Thanks, Issy. My button tin is one my mom had since 1953. I couldn’t possibly part with it. http://adinparadise.wordpress.com/2013/07/11/weekly-photo-challenge-nostalgic/

Interesting! I never thought of my buttons that way before! 😉 Your button collection looks a lot like what I’ve got stored in an old jar! 😀

Buttons used to make a blouse or a jacket special. Now, we hardly pay attention to them when selecting a garment to purchase. It must be because we don’t make our clothing as we did years ago. The buttons were always as important as the fabric we selected. I have all these buttons and no use for them.
Why do I keep them??? 😃

Because we like them! Or because we can make something crafty with them! Or because we might be able to exchange some boring buttons for some pretty ones! Or…… 😀

….. as we all wish to connect to something or someone in life.
They were a few thoughts that came to mind when I came across
my 2 jars of buttons. I will keep them as they are pretty and
in the future may be a thing of the past. Can you imagine that?
I can’t but one never knows. ~~~~~ : – )
