The first time I fell in LOVE with Carlos Santana was when I heard him play ….. Maria Maria
Then, when I learned he was born on my birthday and in the same year – July 20, 1947 – I was hooked.
I felt we were connected in some way. Okay, so he was born in Autlan de Novarra, Mexico and I in Brooklyn, New York. But, his sound is so powerful and you feel transported to unimagined heights.
His newest video is a collaboration with Jaunes called ‘La Flaca’.
Santana – La Flaca ft. Juanes
Influenced by his Latin roots, Carlos Santana is an award winning Hall of Fame guitarist and rock bandleader. H’s been active in the blues and pop song culture for over 40 years.
He first recorded with his band Santana in 1969, combining electrified blues guitar and Afro-Cuban rhythms into a groovy, danceable blend. Santana was a big part of the San Francisco music scene, and their hit 1970 album Abraxas has been a reliable seller for three decades. It features some of Santana’s best known songs, including “Black Magic Woman” and “Oye Como Va.” The personnel in the band Santana has changed many times over the years, and Carlos has worked with several other popular artists, including Buddy Miles, Herbie Hancock, Willie Nelson and Dave Matthews. In 1999 Santana again made a major splash on the charts with the album Supernatural, which featured the hit single “Smooth.” Santana took home eight Grammy Awards for the album, including record of the year, album of the year, best rock album, and five other awards. It tied Santana with Michael Jackson (and his 1984 album Thriller) for the most Grammy Awards won in one night.
Maria Maria is a song by Santana featuring The Product G&B. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 on April 8, 2000, and stayed there for ten weeks. At the 2000 Grammy Awards, the song won the Grammy for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. Despite other lead singers from the album receiving awards, The Product G&B were, for some reason, not honored with a Grammy. Marc Anthony also sang on a version of the song. info wikipedia

It is quite a coincidence, Stefania. I hadn’t heard this song. Thank you for adding it to my comment. I like every type of music. It depends on what I’m doing. This song is great for when you need energy to get something completed. 😀

Yes, Sylvia, those are 2 others songs that were great. He was different for that time in music. The latin tones added to his playing made him unique. He songs were always good to dance a good Cha – Cha. 😎

I’m surprised that you hadn’t heard any Santana songs, Izzy. I’ve been loving their music since I was a teenager. And, no, not really writing much anymore. I just recently posted something because the prompt really inspired me. But my energies seem to be otherwise directed these days. Always good to connect with you though! Love and hugs…

hahaha … I guess I wrote my comment incorrectly. What I meant was that Santana hadn’t been recording any new material. At least, as far as I know. Then, I heard on the radio the one I posted here with his collaberation with Juanes. I used to enjoy hearing Maria – Maria when that one came out. My friends name was Maria. We’d laugh and say he wrote and sang the song for her.
I have my stagnant writing moments too. Then, there are times I have too much to write about and not enough time to do it. But, it is supposed to be fun … isn’t it? LOL 😃 ❤ hugs Gayle ❤

Brill’ band indeed,,Izzy did you know on one of Santanas tours they had Earth Wind and Fire as a support but they got them kick off because they were taking too many encore’s and too popular.. a few years later they became a big name band.. as you probably know their music as well…

Interesting, Gerry … I didn’t know that. I’m not surprised as most artists’; especially, those in the music or acting industry, have huge egos. I believe he was just staring then and may have been – like many other artists – on something not-quite-legal – and had an edge to another band taking the limelight. Earth, Wind and Fire are great. I am a fan of theirs too. Music is so varied and sunjective that there has to be many in order to reach some audience. Glad you enjoyed the post … and … thanks for the comment full of info. 😎
