Coquito is a traditional drink served at Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
The drink is similar to eggnog.
In many households it was prepared days ahead in order to allow the flavors and the rum to blend well.
This particular recipe does not call for raw eggs.
Nor does it call for you to crack open a fresh coconut; however, if available you can.
It’s a very simple mixed drink.
Coquito is served with pasteles. The recipe for that is here.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 -15-ounce cans cream of coconut
2 – 14-ounce cans condensed milk
6 ounces white rum (use less or more if you’d like)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon coconut (or vanilla) extract
Preparation:
1. Mix all ingredients in a blender.
2. Refrigerate for about an hour before serving.
Serve cold with a cinnamon stick as garnish
Serves: This recipe makes about 36 ounces.

It’s sweet and heavy and a bit like egg nog. It isn’t a drink I like but when I serve it many people like it. 😊

Your recipe reminds me of a particular Christmas when my oldest sister and I spiked the home-made eggnog a little too much, and got a little merrier than one of other sisters cared for. We had a blast messing with her that year. The drunker we got, the madder she got. I still laugh when I think of that Christmas. I hope yours, this year, is just as merry. 🙂

Back-to-back cultural treats … Woo hoo!!! Of the two, I would probably prefer the pasteles. Thanks for sharing a cultural tradition … Merry Christmas and a toast to your kindness!

A little beverage to help with the food. haha Actually Frank, the drink is a bit sweet and heavy. I’m not a fan but it is a tradition. Some people love it when I serve it. The pasteles are the yummiest. They are super tasty. Happy Holidays !!! 🎄 🎁
