A dream …. sueno or sonar – Spanish ….
is a series of thoughts, visions or feelings that happen during sleep;
an idea or vision that is created in our imagination and that isn’t real;
something that you’ve wanted very much to do, be , or have for a long time.
To have a dream can, sometimes, collide with contentment.
Do you say to yourself – if I can get that promotion I will be content ?
Do you say to yourself – if I can buy that big house you’ll be content?
Do you say to yourself – if I had more money I’d be able to do more with my life?
These all sound like wonderful dreams. But, have you thought them through?
Do you know that with that new promotion comes more responsibility?
Do you know that with that big house you’ve got more expenses for the upkeep?
And, what about all that cleaning?
Do you know that money can’t always buy happiness?
Can it make life easier for you and your family? Yes, sometimes.
There are some who might disagree.
Contentment is in the little things.
You know, those small dreams you thought were really special
when you were very young and innocent.
I remember the first time, Sister Mary Madeline sat us in a circle to read us a fairytale story. I was in kindergarten. It was ‘The Princess and the Pea’. From that day forward, I wanted to be a princess.
When I was a young child, my parents never read fairytales or stories to me at bedtime or at any other time. I looked forward to story time at school every day.
I was inspired. My imagination began to create wondrous images. One day, I remember coming home from school and tying a long piece of nylon fabric around my head. The elongated piece that hung to the floor was my flowing long hair. I danced and dreamt about my prince holding me as me twirled across the dance floor. It was like a magical cloth.
It was worth all of the yelling my mother did when she saw what I had done. It was some special fabric she had for a future curtain project.
With each story Sister Mary Madeline read to us I, obviously, became much more fascinated. My imagination soared.
Kids would tease me when I told them I wanted to become a princess. They said I wasn’t pretty. They said I had weird frizzy hair. They said my hair wasn’t blond.
I didn’t need them to remind me that I was different from them. I knew it. I was the only brown skinned girl with frizzy hair in an all white school.
I suppose that could be called bullying today. But, it was my everyday life. It made me want to prove them wrong. It stirred me on to keep the dreams I wanted alive.
Dreams can bring a tremendous amount of content if we create them with the focus of being happy instead of just gathering things. We forget when we’re trying so hard to get to the finish line. We miss all of those simple things along the way. Our dreams vanish into stress.
Dreams can help us strive for greater things because we believe in them.
But, we should never lose sight our childlike dreams.
I think Walt Disney said it best:
When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires ’
Will come to you If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do
Fate is kind
She brings to those to love
The sweet fulfillment of
Their secret longing
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and sees you through
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true
Keep your dreams alive ……. Isadora

It’s wonderful to have dreams, aspirations, whatever you want to call them, as long as you don’t become attached to them–make your happiness contingent upon their containment. The joy of the dream is knowing that you are whole and happy no matter what happens. 🙂

Yes, dreams can become obssesive for some. Then, they become nightmares. Balance in all things even dreams.
Thanks for commenting, Lorna. An insightful one and well-expressed. 😊

And of course, getting the big house or whatever doesn’t really bring contentment because as soon as that happens, there’s always something bigger and better to get…

Princess, fairytale…, all little girls dream with them, beautiful, long hair and waiting for the prince. I remember when I was maybe 7, 8 years old I had a doll, that time we didn’t have Barbie, I think it was Susy, beautiful with long blonde hair, my hair was short, I wanted to be like the doll, of course my hair would not grow fast, so I cut the hair of the doll. I remember I was happy because the doll was like me. Kids need play and dream, and like you said, we grown ups need to dream too, sometimes is what keep us going.

I believe your right, Elizabeth. Look at how successful the movie “Frozen” was. And, now, a 2nd in production.
I took my doll that had blond hair and poured ink from my mothers ink-well all over her hair. I wanted her to
have brown hair like me. It wasn’t a good thing to do. Ahhh … the trouble I could get myself into. 😀
Thanks for popping in and leaving your great comment. ❤

Wow, so good to know we had the same idea when kids, instead being like the dolls we made our doll look like us. But I didn’t say to you that my confidence didn’t last long. After the doll hair cut when my friends came to play with their long hair dolls and they saw mine, their reaction were the worst, ” what have you done with her, so ugly, horrible hair”, I was so sad and upset, because I knew thay would say the same about my own hair. Well, last keep the past in the past. Have a great Sunday!

The honesty of kids …. sometimes, a little pang in the stomach when it’s said. Yes, indeed, in the past.
You do the same. We are having a pre-Spring day with sunny skies and 70 temps. I’ll send some your way. 😀

As always, great thoughts. My favorite is “Contentment in the little things.” After all, one frequently once more because that’s what more means.

Can there be no greater contentment than in the little pastime of lying on your back and enjoying a sky full of stars?
Hope all of your days are filled with dreams of magical stars!!! 😊

There is a lot of content in that blog, wowzers. I have been thinking about bed time dreams laity. Mainly because of what one of my teachers said regarding a “why” to dream state.
I currently am awake because of a stress nightmare. I understand the issues and probabilities of our closed eye time. I’m attempting to be thankful for the crazy stress leave my mind and body via the dream. At least it’s my wish.

Yes, a lot of content, indeed. At times, the words just flow and I wonder where to stop.
Dreams are supposed to take those stresses and create scenes that will help to dissipate those
stresses. Sometimes, they don’t do their job real well. But, we have to be grateful for the
times it does do it well.
Hey … thanks for stopping by and leaving your comment. It created a wonderful dialog.
May your dreams begin to flow like the waters in a river. 😀

Thank you for the blessing. As of right now, the river feels like rapids with household appliances dumped from people who don’t know better. Ha, ha, ha?
It’s been an interesting week stress wise. I know the dreams are helping all of me (body & soul) work out issues. I have a great many people helping out in reality as well getting things worked out too.
I have also enjoyed the dialog. Peace and life-vest for everyone!

My mom interpreted dreams, as well. She has passed on now. I’m not sure if I believe in it but
for those who do … Let them dream on. 😊
Aww … you a Disney groupie too. I live 3 hours away and visit a few times a year. My friend lives about 5 miles from the park. Its’ a fun place to go back and act like a kid. You’ll have to make future plans to go again.
Don’t lose you childhood Dreams …. 😀
