Mrs. Strokov had rented the house with her small salary from the fabric shop. Mr. Strokov would soon follow from Russia.
That morning, she argued fiercely with her daughter.
“You will testify against that teacher who shamed and violated you”.
“No Mama”, Marta wailed. “I beg you”.
“We have pride”.
That night, from the rafters, she hung her anguish.

Very well written, Isadora, though extremely sad. Events such as these really tear families apart. It’s tragic that the mother didn’t put her daughter’s anguish before her own concerns over family pride. 🙂

At the end, I wanted to avoid saying the words that were a bit more graphic.

It was a dark piece which required a BAM impact. I figured I’d reach that by trying to divert the reader.
It’s a really sad situation, now-a-days, in the news. Teens lost and feeling like outsiders fall prey and feel
despair about what to do. In this case, the decision was made by her mother causing feelings of helpless
lack of control in her. However, she could control whether she would live or die.

You have a well written story here. It reminds me of this video on Facebook a few months back of this very wicked care taker. A lot of abuse everywhere in the world from people who should make themselves trusted. Your story ended abruptly. That adds to the beauty it any way. It’s a drak subject I’ve seen and read about in the news a lot lately. People who are the caretakers
we entrust our children to aren’t always safe ones. A very sad world we live in.

It is sad that for some this is the only viable solution. I had a friend commit suicide last November. You just never know.

Desparation causes desperate acts. Unfortunately, the aftermath is somuch worse. Children are supposed
to be safe in environements we put them into. It isn’t always.

Isadora, this is excellent! The ending was very sad. My niece killed herself by hanging in October 2013. It was devastating. Sadly, it happens much too often! Your story highlights this problem.
