Shaking his head, Sam couldn’t believe what he’d bought at auction.
Frost was on the ground; more to come tomorrow. No outdoor work ’til Spring.

How’s he going to flip the Strokov House with it’s blackened reputation? What was he thinking?

Mrs. Strokov had rented the house with her small salary from the fabric shop. Mr. Strokov would soon follow from Russia.

That morning, she argued fiercely with her daughter.

“You will testify against that teacher who shamed and violated you”.

“No Mama”, Marta wailed. “I beg you”.

“We have pride”.

That night, from the rafters, she hung her anguish.

Author: Inside the Mind of Isadora

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  3. powerful – and that last sentence was the best ending…

That night, from the rafters, she hung her anguish.

  4. So very well written, Isadora. A tragic ending that’s all too common these days. Well done. — Suzanne

  5. This is a well written, moving piece, with a dark but realistic end. Sadly true for too many. Nice job!

  6. Very well written, Isadora, though extremely sad. Events such as these really tear families apart. It’s tragic that the mother didn’t put her daughter’s anguish before her own concerns over family pride. 🙂

    • I suppose old world thinking is hard to change even if you’re in a new country. Teens seem to be struggling with
many, many things now-a-days. It’s quite sad.
Thank you for visiting my blog, Millie. I appreciate your taking the time and your very nice comment. 😊

  10. Pardon the pun in advance, but very effectively executed, Izzy. This is a gritty piece–says a lot in a little and really pulls at the reader’s emotions and curiosity.

  13. Dear Isadora.

I thought you were going in one direction and then you took the tale in quite another. Sad, somber, yet somehow true to life. This is good writing.

    • Dear Doug,
      Serpentine … Serpentine ..!!!! 😄
It was a dark piece which required a BAM impact. I figured I’d reach that by trying to divert the reader.
It’s a really sad situation, now-a-days, in the news. Teens lost and feeling like outsiders fall prey and feel
despair about what to do. In this case, the decision was made by her mother causing feelings of helpless
lack of control in her. However, she could control whether she would live or die.
I’m really pleased you thought it was a good story. Thank you for your kind comment and for visiting.
      Adios,
      Isadora 😎

  20. You have a well written story here. It reminds me of this video on Facebook a few months back of this very wicked care taker. A lot of abuse everywhere in the world from people who should make themselves trusted. Your story ended abruptly. That adds to the beauty it any way. Let me congratulate you on your 28 years of artistic work. Of course, the experience you gathered will live with you and I can see is benefiting others through your other works. Bravo!

    • It’s a drak subject I’ve seen and read about in the news a lot lately. People who are the caretakers
we entrust our children to aren’t always safe ones. A very sad world we live in.
Thanks for the comment and your visit. I always appreciate any words left here for me. 😍
Happy Easter to you and your family !!!! 🌺

  26. It is sad that for some this is the only viable solution. I had a friend commit suicide last November. You just never know.

    • Desparation causes desperate acts. Unfortunately, the aftermath is somuch worse. Children are supposed
to be safe in environements we put them into. It isn’t always.
I’m sorry for the loss of your friend. Thank you for sharing you heartfelt story and comment. 😍

    • It’s another subject I seem to see a great deal in the news. The people we entrust our children to
aren’t always safe ones. I was hoping to bring a bit of awareness. It’s a dark place to be if you’re a
helpless teen. Thanks for commenting and enjoying my 100 challenges. Please join in one day. 😃

  28. Isadora, this is excellent! The ending was very sad. My niece killed herself by hanging in October 2013. It was devastating. Sadly, it happens much too often! Your story highlights this problem.

    • Thank you, PJ. I’m sorry to hear about your niece. I’m saddened that this happens. The people we hope will be
taking care of our children aren’t always what thye seem. It’s something I hear and read in the news daily.
Thank you for leaving your heartfelt story and for your support. 😍
