Shaking his head, Sam couldn’t believe what he’d bought at auction.
Frost was on the ground; more to come tomorrow. No outdoor work ’til Spring.
How’s he going to flip the Strokov House with it’s blackened reputation? What was he thinking?
Mrs. Strokov had rented the house with her small salary from the fabric shop. Mr. Strokov would soon follow from Russia.
That morning, she argued fiercely with her daughter.
“You will testify against that teacher who shamed and violated you”.
“No Mama”, Marta wailed. “I beg you”.
“We have pride”.
That night, from the rafters, she hung her anguish.

Very well written, Isadora, though extremely sad. Events such as these really tear families apart. It’s tragic that the mother didn’t put her daughter’s anguish before her own concerns over family pride. 🙂

I suppose old world thinking is hard to change even if you’re in a new country. Teens seem to be struggling with

I thought you were going in one direction and then you took the tale in quite another. Sad, somber, yet somehow true to life. This is good writing.

Dear Doug,
Serpentine … Serpentine ..!!!! 😄
It was a dark piece which required a BAM impact. I figured I’d reach that by trying to divert the reader.
It’s a really sad situation, now-a-days, in the news. Teens lost and feeling like outsiders fall prey and feel
despair about what to do. In this case, the decision was made by her mother causing feelings of helpless
lack of control in her. However, she could control whether she would live or die.
I’m really pleased you thought it was a good story. Thank you for your kind comment and for visiting.
Adios,

You have a well written story here. It reminds me of this video on Facebook a few months back of this very wicked care taker. A lot of abuse everywhere in the world from people who should make themselves trusted. Your story ended abruptly. That adds to the beauty it any way. Let me congratulate you on your 28 years of artistic work. Of course, the experience you gathered will live with you and I can see is benefiting others through your other works. Bravo!
