I couldn’t sleep a wink all night. Shoe shopping is thrilling!                                                                                                                                               At first light, I showered and dressed. There wasn’t a moment to spare.
I’d found the perfect dress the day before. I knew exactly where to find the ideal shoes to go with it.
Why hadn’t I purchased them together?
Driving in the downpour was blinding. I forged on.
As quickly as my stylish wedged shoes could carry me, I went straight to where the shoes had been the day before.
I was shocked. Disheartened. It can’t be. Everything’s rearranged.
Is it that time, already?
My shopping nightmare.
Christmas.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. Ahhh, I feel her pain. Falling on love with something and then when you finally go to get it, puff, it’s gone. Perks if last minute shopping. I loved reading this story.

    • I’m with you in the pain department. It happened one Christmas many, many years ago,
Great dress – No shoes to go with it.
Eventually, I decided on another dress and shoes that went well together.
Now, I’m more of a comfort person. Casual with a ballet slipper shoe.
Age, I suppose. I never thought I’d think about comfort but there’s validity to it. 😊
Thanks for stopping by and visiting. Your comment was most appreciated and enjoyable.

    • Getting the right shoe for the perfect dress can make or break an outfit. I was a buyer for a large department store years ago.
Purchasing the coordinating items for the customer was a priority.
Now, I don’t care that much about style. It’s more about comfort. I never thought I would be in that mind set. Age, I suppose.
Thanks for leaving a very nice comment and for visiting.

  4. I don’t think I’ve ever found shoe shopping thrilling – doing it at Christmas would be truly hellish. A great flash fiction. 🙂

    • I totally agree. I never can get the right shoe. I like comfort. Shopping during Christmas for anything can be hellish
especially if it isn’t for the holiday. All items are marketed towards that alone. I think it’s terrible the way each event
is focused on so far in advance. I suppose that’s the way it is in business.
Thank you for stopping by for a visit and leaving a comment. I really appreciate it.

  6. Quite a funny and disheartening story. I hate it when you go shopping and what you liked is already gone. And yes, I guess Christmas is closer then we think.

  7. Not just shopping for shoes at Christmas but shopping for anything at any time of year is my own particular nightmare. Except shopping for food. I like food. And wine.

    • I have so many shoes and only one pair of feet. I’ve discontinued buying. I’ve decided to donate them. 😎
To be honest, I wish I could wear trainer shoes all the times. So much more comfortable. 😁
My nightmare would be to have to be in a mall with lots of people crowding me to get to a pair they have on sale. 😳

  12. Isadora, I haven’t read this yet, and I’m going to in just a second, but I wanted to tell you that you must have made a typo in loading in your story into the InLinkz board because all it is showing us is a “Century Link” suggestion under your name. I wanted to let you know that I’m going to delete this link so you can reload it, using the correct url. Now, I’m going to go delete the link so you can reload and then come back and read this story.
