They were packing to move overseas again.

They’d been in New Mexico for a less than a year.

He’d received his military orders the week before.

Each move, became more difficult to endure.

Why did they have to upset the children again?

They’d finally made friends.

Now, they’re packing again. It always broke her heart to tell them they couldn’t take all their toys or favorite books. There were weight limits on moving overseas. Four children could accumulate many things. Their sad faces would be more than she could bare.

What happened to their dreams?

There’d been many.

Plans they were going to focus on before they considered children.

But, things happen.

They were a blessings to her. She wasn’t sure if he felt the same. He was gone a lot. It was part of his secret service military career.

They’d had a good marriage.

She thought.

But, things happen.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. Initially, I reminded me of friends who have moved so many times … uprooting family around a career move or a military reassignment. Moving is never fun .. but I’ve met some who looked at it on the bright side. …. But your ending delivered an unexpected spin. Well done … and the new musical starts tonight!

    • YUP … I had marked my calendar, aFrank. I didn’t want to miss the opening. But, Thanks for the reminder.
I’m pleased you enjoyed my story about the difficulties of life on the move. There are adventurous people
who enjoy moving from different places or countries and look at it as free travel. In any field of work there’s
always good and bad. I suppose that’s why one has to decide what career will make them happy until they retire.
      Thanks, again.

  2. Te pretuiesc pentru ca imi intri direct in inima , bajbaind prin bezna neputintei mele, si scoti la lumina doar acele mici comori ale sufletului pe care nimeni altcineva nu le-a cautat atat de departe…
I appreciate because I go to the heart, groping through the darkness of my helplessness, and bring out those little treasures of the soul just that nobody else has looked so far away …

  3. That is a sad story and a very hectic life. No settling for the kids, always a come and go… Pawkisses 🙂 ❤

  4. Great story. Tells the problems with children in the military and moving. I had cousins that moved all around from Africa to Germany to japan and also in the US. They didn’t stop moving until their dad retired. 🙂

    • The story is from the experiences I’ve heard from friends, family and others who’ve made the
military life a career. Children, especially the very young ones, find the moves difficult. Your
right, only retirement ends the grueling lifestyles.
Glad you enjoyed my story, Susan. Thank you for coming by and leaving your comment. I apprecaite it.

  7. Wonderful story Isadora! It is so common, that couples have plans that get changed once children come along. It is difficult for a whole family to move much less having to move overseas. You show how hard it is for the children to have to move, in your story. Very touching story!

  9. Indeed, it’s hard for the children. They have to constantly make new friends and adapt to new environment. Great story, Isadora. 😃
