Friday Fictioneers – Pop Pop’s Antique Car

Friday Fictioneers - 2:26:2016 - al_forbes

The parade was on Sunday.

Nana was excited. She’d be driving Pop Pop’s antique car.

He’d purchased it at an auction. It took him 8 years to restore her.
Sadly, he never got to show her off.

“Will you be able to see, Nana?”, I asked.

“I’ll be dazzling wearing my wide brimmed yellow hat”, she beamed.

“But, the ophthalmologist said to limit your driving.”

“Lily, I wouldn’t miss showcasing your Pop Pop’s car for anything.”

She slept soundly, with a dazzling smile, that night.

I drove the car wearing her wide brimmed yellow hat.

She would have been proud.

      Yes, I think both of her grandparents would have been proud of her.
      Dreams put on hold sometimes are fulfilled by another.
      I added the yellow hat because I wanted to shwocase Nana as an eccentric grandmother.

    when nana mentioned she’d be driving, you could have said, “in your dreams.” but i guess you couldn’t bear tell her the truth. 🙂

    Sweet and touching story. Sometimes it’s take the next generation to fulful one’s dream but the grandparents were the foundation for this dream. Nicely done.

    That’s so sad, but also beautiful. I love how the granddaugher wears the hat while driving the car. She makes her grandparents proud.

      their dream come true. The granddaughter learned that one must live today because tomorrow may never be.

      I’m afraid Nana went to sleep with her dream. Her granddaughter paid tribute to her
      and Pop Pop by driving the car in the parade. She wore the yellow hat to show her Nana
      she loved and respected her so much.

      Sadly, it is so. Nana didn’t get to realize the dream but her granddaughter paid tribute to them both.
      The hat was my perception of the personality her Nana would have had – a bit eccentric. I loved it
