The guys named him Black Hawk. He was shaky today. I could feel his insecurity.
He needed some love; that, and the reassurance that this isn’t good-bye. I couldn’t blame him.
There was cheering and shouting everywhere. We were going home.
One night when he crept into the barracks, he was muddy. His body was nothing but bones and mange.
After a lot of pleading, Sarg let us keep him.
“He won’t survive, he said. He’s a dog. A dogs gonna do what a dog does. Run out. Some random shots will get him.”
I wasn’t going to let that happen. I talked to Black Hawk. He listened. He helped keep the moral alive for us guys.
“Hey, little buddy, don’t look so sad. It’s a great day for all of us. We’re going home, I told him.”
I think he understood.

Without the dog he may not have survived the pain of war. (In my fiction story, anyway).
I appreciate your visiting and commenting, Jacqueline. Have a GREAT week ..!!!

They were both ready to start their lives together in a place called home.
The photo is from pixlr. I forgot to add that. I will do that now. Glad you

The photo didn’t have too much open for original creativity. But, everyone has a writing style all their own.
Pets become our friends. They know how to read our moods. I’m sure this dog knew exactly how things would
change once they were out of that environment. I’m pleased you enjoyed my story. Thank you for stopping by and
leaving you very nice comment.

The black dog was my inspiration. He seemed to be relying on his friend. I think in the end they were
both relying on each other for hope. Thank you for commenting and visiting today.

I was going for a feel good story. I write too many tear producers. But, I’m sure they’re happy tears which is what
I was going for. Thank you for your very nice comment, Rosema, and for visiting.

I always wonder at the friends and life savers that the soldiers are forced to leave behind. Some rules are just not right.

In my story, I want to believe that Black Hawk did go home with the soldier. After all, they both needed each other.
It would be difficult on both if he was left behind. But, I’m with you, I wonder how they manage in the event that something
or something is left behind. Sam, thank you for visiting and leaving you insightful comment.

Great story, Isadora! I hope he gets to take the dog home with him, otherwise it will be terribly sad for the dog. Wonderful story!

I don’t think the soldier would leave his little buddy behind, PJ. He’s the reason he was able to go on during
such a difficult task he was given. I’m pleased you enjoyed it. Thank you for the kind words.
