Orchid Smiles

Today started with a beautiful gift.

I’ve been growing this orchid plant for 2 1/2 years.

The green stems on the plant, always look healthy but no flowers.

I’d purchased the plant at a garden sale. There wasn’t a name tag or color listed.flower-yellow-orchid-611-webAs I have a great many purple, lavender, pinky purple and white, I was willing to gamble on what

color this one was going to be. BUT …. no flowers for 2 1/2 years.

I fertilized. I watered. I placed it in different garden areas for better light.

Nothing ….

Then, this morning, I was given my gift. These glorious yellow and orangey edged blooms.

I love Mother Nature. She never disappoints.

Have an orchid smiles day ….

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. These orchids are beautiful! You are so lucky to have such a wonderful surprise after 2.5 years. The photographs made me smile, because it is so cold and miserable. The yellow flowers are just stunning 🙂

  2. Your post reminds me of life in general. Just like your orchid, you watered and cared for it, and when it still didn’t bloom, you tried something else – like moving it to a different area. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. Good things come to those who do the work and wait patiently.

  3. LOL, I’ve heard of late bloomers but that’s really over the top! Well worth the wait tho, don’t you think?!

    • Yes, it was worth the wait, Tina. Funny thing is I kept the plant becasue of its hardy green leaves.
If they had been whimpy I would have put the plant in the recycle mulch bin. LOL
I’m happy something finally bloomed. A late bloomer is the perfect description. : )

  4. So very beautiful! Love the sunshine color. 🙂

  6. I have the impression that these delicate flowers are difficult to grow. Maybe this one knew she was growing for you, Izzy. She knew she had to shine for such a beautiful caretaker! ❤

    • I grow orchids as a hobby. I have about 50. I replant the off shoots to create more plants. It’s relaxing.
At my last orchid club meeting. I won 6 small ones in a raffle they were having. Don’t know their colors either.
I don’t think they’ll bloom too soon as they are small. The unknown is always exciting in the orchid world.
Thank you for enjoying my new flowers.

      • Wow, there is even an orchid club! That sounds like a fabulous club, and I am sure it is relaxing, gardening tends to relax the soul. There is an Arabic saying that gardeners are the people with the gentlest hearts, because it takes care and patience to grow things. I wish you and your orchids well, so glad to have stumbled upon this post.

        • There are many orchid clubs within an hour of my home. They have lectures from orchid masters or orchid store owners on care, potting and names of orchids. You can bring in an orchid that isn’t doing well and they assist you. It’s quite fun. One member has 200 orchids. She’s having an open house soon. I’m excited. I love your Arabic saying. I believe that to be true. Please stop by and visit anytime. It’s been a pleasure. I thank you for your wonderful dialog.

      • I did. We have a white one and white one tinged with purple at home. Most of the ones I see here are white or purple but they grow well and are difficult to kill 🙂
