“Maw,” Becky Sue whined, tears streaming down her face.
“Child, look what you’ve done,” Momma said pointing to the floor.
“Ya’ll dragged muddy dirt in. I’m near ‘bout to lose my mind with all the work that’s gotta be done ‘round here.”
“But, Maw, come see. Bubba’s done a real bad thing,” Becky Sue bawled.
“Please Maw, please come see.”
“Fine! I suppose it’s gotta be important.”
“Look,” Becky Sue pointed.
“Lordy that child’s done gone too far this time. Drinkin’, smokin’ and breakin’ your favorite dolly.”
“Go find me a switch, Becky Sue. Someone ‘round here needs some learnin’.”

Wonderful story of country folks, who do things the old fashioned way. I remember when getting a switch was not illegal. 😉 Nice descriptive piece, Isadora.

Hi Dawn,
I’m a bit behind this week. It’s so nice to see you here. Thank you for visiting.
I find the old fashioned ways were a bit harsh but somehow there was a lot more parental respect.
It’s hard to imagine being hit with a switch and not think abuse but during those days, long gone, it was the norm.
I’m pleased you found it to be a nice descriptive piece. Thanks again …

I agree, never a good solution: then or now. And it is definitely still the norm in many households here and abroad. Sadly, I believe abuse will always exist in some places.

Yes indeed, Bjorn, there should be limits with children. I’m not sure if a switch is the answer
but certainly consequences at times need to be instilled. Thank you for visiting and commenting.

Thank you, Irene. My best friend is a southern lady who has that tone in her voice and a dog named Bubba.
The story is fiction but the tone is all her. Thank you for visiting and leaving your lovely comment.

You caught the essence of these people. Way to go, Iz!
Also, in Kansas we have the tendency to talk like that, too. Depends on where you go.

I think I’ve picked up a bit of a southern twang from being down south since ’89.
My dearest friend was born and raised here. Her dogs name is Bubba. We’ve talked
for hour about how different we are and yet so alike. I love the south and don’t mean no harm. : )
Thnanks for the way-to-go on this one. You have a great weekend ya hea’.

Querida Rochelle,
One never knows what fills the mind of Isadora. I’m the ever changing chameleon.
I live in the south. My friend was born and raised here. Her dog is named Bubba.
It’s a miracle she hangs with this yankee. ~~~ : – )
I was trying to be a little less intense with my writing this week. Although, Bubba is gonna be hurtin’. haha
Gracias, mi amiga. Que goces el fin de semana.
Abrazos,
Isadora 😎
