Alberto tried to convince Blanca that tonight would be the perfect night to meet.

He texted her to look out her window. A dark night; no moon. No one will see you.

What about the old lady across the street? She never sleeps, she texted back.

Look, your father will be asleep. I finally got my brother to lend me his car.

It’s snowing. Cold.

I’ll keep you warm. I promise I’ll get you home safe.

Blanca put on her black sweater. She figured it would camouflage her.

She grabbed the door knob.

From behind she heard, “Where’re you going?”

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. That would have been my dad, too. 🙂

  2. Egad! Caught! The suspense was perfectly done. I was hoping that maybe he would just be waiting nearby. If this were Mexico, he would do it the old-fashioned way — come by on a horse to the home, two guys holding guns beside him, take her away on the horse while the guys hold of the Papa. I think that’s still done, well, at least in Veracruz.

Cinco de cinco armas, pistolas y navajas. Ciao!

    • Gracias very much on the suspense. I don’t think they have horses in urban neighborhoods. HA HA
I can’t imagine the guns and the dad holding but I guess other places have different techniques.
In this case, she’s a teen and shouldn’t be sneaking out. I never did because my dad would have skinned me like a deer or some such animal that gets skinned. LOL The last line is a page out of my Dads list of 3 word sentences: Where’re you going? What’re you doing? Why’re you sitting? Where’s your homework? Ohhhh … I could go on.
Cinco de Marzo coming up … quizas celebrar Cinco de Mayo temprano – in my mind. LOL
      Adios, mi amigo !!!

  7. I had the feeling that Alberto’s intemtions were not that honourable. Maybe her father sensed it too ☺ Loved the text exchange.

    • Young teens simply want to be together despite weather, restriction of set rules and age.
They feel grown-up when they’re just teens. A tale that could be expanded.
Thank you for your comment that created a dialog. I love other perspectives.

  8. I sense there is more to this story… a Romeo & Juliet maybe.

  9. Foiled by the parent. Maybe better to not go out in the snow anyway. Well written.

  10. The eyes and ears of parents often extend to anything that involves their children. Poor Alberto and Blanca… I wonder how she’ll explain herself.

    • Querida Rochelle,
No hay una palabra para BUSTED. Pero se puede decir ‘Fracaso’ = fiasco or failure.
This laison was a big fiasco. HA HA
I wanted to go light this week. The dark starry night seemed perfect for something clandestine.
Me encanta que le gusto tanto que le dio risa. Gracias …
      Con carino,
      Isadora 😎
