Although there wan’t any dinner because he’d arrived late, he felt no ill will.
Freshly brewed coffee and donuts were set out for the night. This would be enough for him.
~~~~~~~
The street lights were a warm welcome for the oncoming damp chilly night.
The lamppost, near his favorite bench, the ideal place to secure the fine bicycle he’d found at the Salvation Army today. The boots fit him perfectly, too. He was happy the saleswoman had given him this woolen blanket as he left.
Soon sleep. And, another day would have been lived.
God, he thought, life was grand.
Yes, I am. I grow orchids as a hobby. When they send out small buds I repot and gain more beauty. As of now, I’m up to 50 orchids. It isn’t work if you love them. Thanks again …. 😎
Hello Michael,
He did seem happy with very little. How many of us can be as positive in the same situation?
I’m pleased you enjoyed. Thank you …
Hi Amy,
I was trying to write something a little upbeat.
I know being homeless isn’t upbeat. But, he was happy with whatever came his way.
How many of us have many blessings and still see the glass half empty instead to half full?
I found his gratitiude and appreciaiton for the little he had made me sit and ponder my life.
Thanks for visiting ….
The homeless usually have more appreciation for the little things in life and don’t take more than they need. It’s a great thing to write about, Isadora.
I believe some people can still see a positive in their life situation if they just look.
I think that’s what he was doing. I tried to write a more upbeat story this week.
Being homeless isn’t upbeat but I tried to show that he was satisfied with having this kind of life.
I’m pleased you enjoyed my story. Alicia, thank you for visiting and leaving your lovely comment.
It’s a lovely story, Isadora. The protagonist is happy he gets what he needs to survive, that’s his choice and maybe all he wants. But life is so much more than mere survival, that makes me very sad for him.
Yes, it is a bit minimal for the protagonist. But, at this point just surviving is enough for the person who lives this lifestyle. No rewards for being able to get through life one-day-at a-time except survival. Thanks for commenting.
Many people who are homeless are mentally ill or have lost long time jobs to downsizing. Getting back on your feet can be tough.
We need to appreciate every moment of blessings we have. Thank you for visiting, Tracey Delaphin, and commenting.
Querida Isadora,
Thoughtful and evocative are las palabras I ascribe to this well written piece. His thankfulness in the midst of such a meager existence is so well portrayed and makes one consider what is really necessary. ¡Que buena, mi amiga!
Querida Rochelle,
I was in the midst of writing my nurture post when I thought I’d use it for FF instead.
I’m pleased it worked. I was treading on thin ice as I clicked – publish.
Gracias, mi amiga por sus palabras amable. ❤️
Con carino y Shalom,
Sadly, we take the simple everyday things for granted.
At times, those who are without seem to appreciate life much more.
