Friday Fictioneers – Flamenco Competition

“Por favor, Renaldo, can we stop all of this practicing. My feet are swollen. My toes ache.”

“Esmeralda, we must practice if we’re going to win the competition.”

“But, it’s snowing and I wish to go home while I still can.”

“The Flamenco has to be perfect; no missteps, we must be flawless.”

“Okay, go, he snarled. Work on your costume and return early tomorrow. No excuses.”

Cautiously, Esmeralda, walked to her car.

From behind she heard a scream.

Quickly, she turned and saw Renaldo sitting on the icy concrete.

With a sheepish grin, she shouted, “No practice tomorrow … right?”

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  4. I am sure Esmeralda must have been cursing him. And i hope she didnt overdo it or they will miss the performance too 😀 An enjoyable tale and well told.

  5. One shouldn’t laugh at someone’s downfall, but I couldn’t suppress a smile. 😅

  7. Yes… practice makes perfect but over practice makes injuries… poor Renaldo (not!)

  13. On the one hand, I’m happy Esmeralda gets a break. But I remember injuring my ankle and not being able to bellydance for weeks and it was so frustrating! For anyone as passionate about the art as Renaldo, this has got to be a quite aggravating. Fun story.

    • Yes, I agree with you. As a former dancer, I can remember many minor foot fractures from overstraining.
Belly Dance: the only form of dance I never tried. Now, my hips would be too achy to try. : )
I’m pleased you enjoyed my story. Thank you for visiting and commenting.

  15. Let’s hope the only thing bruised was his pride, although a lot of people wind up in the hospital from falling on ice.

  16. Perhaps if HE had to wear the heels . . .. Then again, dancing to win does take practice, practice , practice. Nice take on the prompt ~ great conversation.

    • HA HA … that is so true. Heels must have been invented by the same man who invented the mammogram machine. LOLOL
Actually, in Flamenco dancing the men wear a heeled shoe for the clicking. As a former dancer for many years, I can atest
to the brutal practice sessions. But, when you win it is all worth it. Anyway, dancers love, love, love to dance no matter how much their feet hurt.
Glad you enjoyed my little story. Thank you …

  18. Well, that will teach him. Dedication is good and all, even great… but one must never sacrifice common sense.

    • HI Magaly,
As a former dancer, I can tell you teachers or choreographers will work you until you fall
right before a competition. But, Renaldo got his when he fell. I’m happy you enjoyed my take on your photograph.
      Thank you,
      Isadora 😎

  23. Querida Isadora,

The last line made me laugh out loud. Creo que Renaldo aprendió una lección de humilidad. ¿De veres? I enjoyed this.

    Abrazos y Shalom,
