Friday Fictioneers – First Car

“Mason?” “Are you ready?”

“Yeah Dad!”

“The dealership said you can pick-up the car. Its’ ready.”

“OK.”

A few hours later Mason drives up in his new 2017 VW.

Shocked, his Dad runs out faster than a cheetah running after prey.

“What the hell is this?”

“You see Dad, the car dealer told me, if I took his deal immediately I could have the VW with the old ford trade-in”.

“You’re not going to drive around college in a 2017 car.”

“But Dad, can’t we talk about this?”

“No, first car is always used.”

“Let’s take it back.”

    My first car was used too. I think it helps keep us grounded 😉 Plus, we’re still learning to drive really! Great fiction 🙂

    I think that’s a fair enough rule, I’m on car 3 and still can’t afford a brand new one!

    A very American tale. I think. I’m lost in the ways of finance even in Great Britain. Sorry. Nice dialogue, though. A very calm Dad for running at that speed.

      Usually, you can trade in an older vehicle for a new one and get a discount. I imagine this young man thought the discount
      was a good one but, obviously being young, he forgot that payments had to be made once purchased. I don’t think the dad did.
      Hope that helps. It’s fiction so I have no idea what the feelings were between the dad and son. It was just a quick fun story about a photo.

    Heehee! And if he was in school, just who was going to be paying for the new car! LOL! My first car was new but I was footing the bill! 1969 Firebird! Loved that car. Today you can’t even hardly get a used car for what I paid new back then! Sigh 😔 😬

      I don’t beleieve the son gave too much thought about the payments. Perhaps, he was thinking more about attracting young ladies. : )
      There were so many cars in my life. We had a friend that had an auto repair shop that sold cars on the side. He let me drive new ones, old ones
      and once I decided which one I wanted I could then purchase it. I drove a ’69 Firebird. It was a pretty cool car. But, I had small children
      I settle on a Jeep Wagoneer. It had lots of room for carting them and their friends. Plus, it had 4 wheel drive for snow days in winter.
      I miss that one even though it would be too much car now. Ahhhh …. memories of the days gone by.

    First car must always be used. I agree, Isadora.
    All of my cars have been used, however… some more than others, it must be said.

      This dad had the right idea. I think the young man might have been thinking of how a new car could attract young ladies.
      But, dad knew he was going to be paying. New cars lose so much value as they’re driven off of the lots that even a year old
      car is better than new. First cars do bring back memories … don’t you think? Glad you enjoyed, Tom. I see you’re having a fun

    Students today, they don’t know they’re born, of course a first car, a student car must be used and unreliable at that, full of stuff you have to sit on when getting a lift.

      Ha Ha … it’s so true. Teens can’t keep themselves together let alone keep up with a new 🚗 car. An new car requires a right of passage – i.e.: a job.

    Yep… A reality check is in order… Mind you, I bought my first car at the age of 26. A brand spanking new Htyundai Excel. No radio, no nuthin’!
