Friday Fictioneers – Old but Hot to Trot

Mom says she wants to travel. She’s thinking Europe; alone and at 75.

Where did she meet this friend, Jean, she plans to travel with all of a sudden?

My sister and I decide we should allow her this last frivolous adventure.

Safety Harbor Nursing Home can wait until she returns.

While she’s vacationing, we can put the house up for sale and gather what each of us wants from the many collectibles. Then, we’ll have our own European vacation.

In her mailbox arrives a postcard for us.

“Marrying Gene in Paris!” “He’s 65 and hot to trot”. “Tomber amoureux!”

      I totally agree, Pamela. Love combined with happiness is all that’s needed as you get older. I enjoy showcasing in my writing the prospectives of the aging. Thank you for visiting and commenting. I always appreciate the feedback of others.

      Pushy children receiving what they deserve for their lack of consideration of their mother feelings and her life possessions.
      The throw-a-way society has little sentiment for the things collected by people who worked hard to get them.

        I wish her the best. I know quite a few middle-aged people whose widowed parents have found a new companion/soulmate/lover. Most have been resentful rather than pleased. I find that really sad (that said, it hasn’t happened to me).

          The character I wrote about in the story is a conglomeration of various elderly people I know. Quick story: We were renting a house when we first moved to Florida, from a man who had taken his wife up north to get her medical care since their children lived up there. When she passed away he asked us if he could break our lease. He wanted to come back down to Florida to find another wife. Hysterical .. Right??? Times a wastin’ hehehe I say live your life however you want. The kids are living theirs without thought for yours. Gone are the days of caring for your parents. I know we took care of both of ours and felt good about doing it. Oh … I could go on. 😀 Thanks again, JS … A thought provoking photograph for the challenge. 😎

    Gee, mom’s not even gone, and the kids are packing up her things and vying for her best – and selling off the rest. Bet she has other plans – clearly. Good on her and what a hoot! Who says you’re too old to have a good time and trot – in whatever means and fashions? Wonderfully fun flash 🙂

      It sad but it happens more and more these days. Kids aren’t interested in taking care of aging parents.
      Distance and their own families are their priorities … as they should be. Here in Florida, the elderly
      are sadly placed in these facilities never to be visited again. Their treasured things never appreciated
      because the throw-a-way society thinks their superfluous. BUT … on another the other hand … it would
      be a hoot to give them a good scare. We’re all as young as we feel and no one should try to change that thought.

        and you’re right – it happens all the time – and everywhere …. mostly, in NA we treat aging and the elderly with terrible disdain … it’s certainly not right. And yes, children do have the right to lives of their own, but it doesn’t have to unfold in so many of the ugly ways that it does. 😐

        And yup, age is just a number – and if health permits? Live it. 🙂
