Friday Fictioneers – The End of the Road

We bickered about off-road adventures from the moment we made our plane reservations.

“Where’s you sense of adventure?”

“I don’t have any”.

“You promised you’d come along and not gripe. The taxi driver said to follow the dirt road and we’d find the little out-of-the-way hostel”.

“Umm … I’m not an expert hiker but this sign is telling us something”.

“I’ll look down the side of the cliff. You know, get my bearings”.

The panic on his face said it all.

On the jagged black mountain cliff, lay the charming little cottage they called, ‘Sheer Drop Inn’.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. Haha! I probably shouldn’t laugh but I am! Good story—especially since I’m not a hiker/camper! 🤭😁

    • LOL … Please do have a chuckle or two, Linda. I’m not a comedy type writer but it came
out that way and I enjoyed everyone having a laugh. I guess my lack of outdoorsy-ness came through.
      I’d prefer a hot tub with a glass of wine. ~~~~ : – )
Glad you enjoy this story … thank you.

    • I hope they do, Bjorn. Now, they just have to get down there. : O
Super photo …. did you take it while on a hike? Interesting the way everyone has found their own tale to tell.
Thanks for popping by and leaving a comment.

  10. A “little out-of-the-way hostel” – Isn’t that a bit of an understatement? 😉

    • LOL … yes, it is a bit out-of-the-way. I hope he has the right climbing ropes.
Perhaps, the view from below is much more interesting. There may be a jacuzzi tub in the room
that will help ease the risk and fear for the trek back up. Thank you, aFrank for stoppinging by.

ps – please for give my lack of visits. My daughters wedding is fast approaching (April 7th).
Traveling soon and lots of last minute things to do. 😳

    • LOLOL … that is soooo funny. I love it, Penny. I didn’t start out to write anything humorous but I’m
pleased everyone has been getting a good chuckle from it. I may have to do more comedy.
I wonder how they’d get down there. Perhaps, ropes for scaling the mountain. 😁 😂 🤣

  12. The name suggests it is not for the weak of heart, that’s for sure!

    • I wonder how they’ll reach the hostel. It looks like a long drop (ie: drop LOLOL)
I had fun with this one since hiking isn’t something I do. But, hiking was the first
thing that came to mind. Thanks, Dale, for reading and enjoying my little tale.

  20. Querida Isadora,

Not a place I’d be staying that’s for sure. I’m terrified of heights to begin with. Good story though.

    • Querida Rochelle,
I’m with you on the heights issue. Heights aren’t my friend. My stomach does a dance and dizzy is right behind.
I don’t do hiking or outdoor adventures. We sold our travel camper once the kids didn’t want to go anymore. It was a great day. I never liked it.
Well, the photo didn’t speak to me since i’m not outdoor-ish. I did want to add my two cents. It’s a small amount of money but I think it’s going far.
Gracias por su buenas palabras pero no es mi mejor escritura. Uno no puede escribir bien todo el tiempo. Verdad? Hasta la próxima – depues de la boda.
      Abrazos y Shalom,
      Isadora 😎

    • I’m fascinated by people who do these types of adventures. Not me … I’m more of a safety first traveler.
Although, hubby likes to go off the beaten path and we have had some harrowing experiences. Once back
home, we laugh at how much fun it was though I didn’t think so at the time. ~~~~ : 0 ~~~~ : )
