Friday Fictioneers – My Herb Garden

Although weakened by her chronic arthritis, she managed to make her usual egg, toast and coffee breakfast.

She enjoyed her quiet mornings. She’d never thought she would. Age had greatly slowed her vitality.

Eyeing her window garden, the sun shone brightly on it. She cherished it. Thomas had planted the herbs for her.

He was the sweetest caring grandson. He’d told her to add the herbs to her salads and foods everyday. He’d said they’d help with her arthritic pain. They did.

She’d never been much of a gardener but would hate to disappoint Thomas if they didn’t continue to grow.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. It was a pleasure to read this story, being able to grow even a small amount of fresh food must be good.

  2. I’m a bad person because I wondered what kind of herb that was… A heartwarming story with a layer underneath.

    • ***** 5 Stars for you, GL. I was wondering if anyone would read the underlying story beneath. This story has sprinkles from an experience of a friend who saw an alternative MD who prescribed herbs. Bravo for future natural healing breakthroughs. Thanks for reading and being confident to comment on what you read beneath what was visible.

  9. Querida Isadora.

This summer I started a small herb ‘garden’ on my deck. One box of basil and the other of mint. There’s something very wonderful about growing them and even more wonderful is how they enhance foods. Next year, I plan a larger one.
Very sweet story about a special relationship. Me gusta mucho.

    • Querida Rochelle,
      Gracious por sus buenas palabras.
BRAVO 👏 on the herb garden. I enjoy fresh basil in my salads. YUMMY!!!
I remember when my kids were young I had a vegetable, herb and berry garden. I’ve always loved gardening. I may have been bitten by the Victory Gardens talked about during the 70’s. All of my friends have gardens. Perhaps, it’s our year round great temps.
Thank you for enjoying my take on the photo prompt. Siempre es in placer.

  13. I agree with Dale. In addition to the health benefits from adding it to her salad. It gave her something to take care of, which is equally important to our health. Well done, Isadora.

    • Yes, indeed, Russell. The little things in life become more important.
Releasing stress and healthy eating all play a part in combination. I can recall having
a Victory Garden when my kids were little. YUMMY … tomaties and greens.
Thank you for your lovely comment and for enjoying my little story.

    • Yes, healthy eating, less stress and natural herbs will be the best medicine for us all eventually.
We’ve gone so far to one side it has to go back to natural things. I’m pleased you enjoyed the mindset
of an aging woman who appreciates the little things in her life now. We can all learn about being
a little more simpler in our lives. Thank you for visiting and commenting. Have a GREAT weekend…!!!

      • Well I wish we would be going to back to more natural things sooner but feel like there is brainwashing going on! Like when some people get cancer – they are told by the highly respected allopathic doctors or practitioners to not get caught up in internet searches for remedies – seriously / the patients are already dumbed down and then they are advised to not even think of alternative options because it will
Overwhelm them (or they make it sound like there are snake oil salesmen only)
My mother had kidney failure and they never tried to use herbs to cleanse her body and bring back renal health (and it can be done in the majority of cases) – they just told her a transplant was needed (and sadly kidney transplants are huge business and I feel too quick to assume they cannot be nurtured back to working vibrantly)
and a more recent story – we know a lady who had cancer diagnosis about a year ago – it had come back and she is going to hospice – and she never once tried alternative therapies and my heart aches because cancer patients are never told they had immune system breakdown – which is what allowed cancer to develop – and other factors added up – like you noted – stress – low sleep – no sunshine – etc
And my pet peeve is when oncology serves cookies!
Um – sugar suppresses immunity and most cancers also have a fungal and viral component so what the heck – at least stop serving non nutritious life-pulling food!

        • I’m with you on researching our illnesses. MD’s don’t want educated patients but it’s our bodies. Shouldn’t we have an awareness of what’s going on. MD’s don’t like patient advocates either. You know – someone who sits in with the patient to ensure that patient understands? Many times nerves can affect concentration causing foggy memories along with bad decisions because of it.
We are the only ones who can decide what is best for us. Natural, holistic and other natural alternatives are always worth trying. This is a subject that will be controversial until more people can accept and be open to different options.
I appreciate the dialogue. Have a peacefully relaxing weekend. 😎

ps – I’ve read and commented on your story but it doesn’t show.
I tried Google and WP. Hope it just needs approval. I think your
story is timely since many do have issues with OCD. : )
