Friday Fictioneers – She Trusted Too Much

Dusk peeked through the curtain.

It had been a harrowing day.

Her gardening past time destroyed by a sneaky thief. 

It was a small garden. Just enough space for tulips and the rose bush her husband had planted.

“A rose bush for my Rose,” he’d proclaimed,

She longed to hear him say her name.

Why had she been so naive?

Why had she fed that stranger information about her son and his friend?

Was her sight that hazy?

“Are you Vinnie?”, she’d asked him.

“Yes, your son sent me to get the $200 dollars for him.”

She trusted too much.

    Such a tragic story. If there’s a hell, I think that those who exploit the elderly should be near the front of the queue to go there.

    You describe the disappointment and lost feeling perfectly. Such a sad story, preying on the weak is sadly happening everywhere. Where I live it is called ‘grandchildren trick’ — people call and pretend to be the grandchild of lonely elderly people, they ask for a loan from grandma or granddad and send a ‘friend’ to pick the money up. Large sums are stolen that way. Despicable.

      Yes, GAH, I’ve heard of that scam too. The elderly were from a trusting world.
      A handshake was a contract and their word. They’re vulnerable to the sophisticated
      crimes of today. The more this is talked about the more aware people will become.

    Sad, but this happens all the time. A theif stole from my grandmother shortly after grandpa died. I’m told they watch the obituaries to find their next victim.

      Es un cuento que pasa mucho aqui en Florida.
      Las noticias tienen un cuento todas las noches de algo como esto. Obituaries in the paper give info to these lower than low non-humans. Si es bien triste … gracias por sus buenas palabras, mi amiga
