Inside the Mind of Isadora

Friday Fictioneers – The Interview

Dancing was on her mind all the time. Magda was obsessed with the idea of becoming an Alvin Ailey jazz dancer. She disliked practicing ballet for posture or tap for flexibility. The movements bored to tears. Jazz had a rhythm all its own.

She told her parents about moving to Hollywood after graduation. They tried to discourage her by saying she was foolish.

Entering the agency, she was awestruck by the photos on the walls.

Mr. W asked, How big a star do you want to be?

Musicals big, Magda replied.

There’s a price, you know.

Reality hit, Magda shuddered.

Author: Inside the Mind of Isadora

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. So timely and sadly probably still so true! Great theme we need to keep hammering home!

    • Yes, indded, we do need to speak up without fear of reprocussions. Recntly, I was referred to a specialist by my primary. While in his office he kept squeezing my shoulder. It wasn’t necessay. I asked him to please discontinue touching me. I left his office never to return. It can happen anywhere. We, as women, have to take our power and use it. I feel very strongly about this subject due to having experienced many incidents throughout my journey through life. It happens everywhere not just in the theatrical world. Thank you for visiting and leaving your very insightful comment. I appreciate all who visit. Have a wonderful day … Be Safe

  2. Don’t you just wish the Mr. Ws of this world did not think it was ok to make young women pay that price? I am still puzzled this went on for so long, and not just in Hollywood.

    • I appreciate your warm-heartedness towards my protagonist. Women were afraid of not being heard or of the bannning by other agents through words from people like the Mr. W’s. I believe that’s what made them accept their horrific treament.
I recently went to an MD who constantly squeezed my shoulder. It wasn’t necessary. I had to tell him to stop. I never returned to him. Men in power, at times, do not respect women. Yes, chnage will begin when we stop being afraid to speak up.Have a wonderful day … Be Safe

  6. At which point I’d have turned around and run out of that filthy man’s office, never to return.

There simply HAS to be a better way!

  7. If he meant what I think he meant, I shuddered with her! Excellent, if chilling, take on the photo prompt, Isadora.

  8. What’s that saying, “anything worth having is worth working for”? She could choose the work-sweat way or another path, but one way or another she will pay.

  13. I’ve heard of a Mr. W who demanded a large price for fame, and too many were willing to pay it… Good story.

  14. There’s a price for every dream. Hollywood and co’s price is pretty extreme.

    • If you’re going through Google, you may be encountering this issue. I can’t like or comment through Google. I have no clue why. I’m not that savvy about tech stuff. I can ‘Like’ and ‘Commnet’ through Safari. Hope that helps. Thanks for perservering on getting to my stories. I appreciate it very much. Have a wonderful weekend … Be Safe

  17. I hope Magda still gave it a go to be honest. The Alvin Ailey school is tremendous.

    • I loved Alvin Ailey when I was taking dance classes in Mahattan. He was very new to the dance world when I was there in 80’s. Progressive and innovative 🕺💃👍
I believe Magda did the right thing and stood firm in her moral compass which guided her intincts through adversity all through her career. It’s best to think she had a strong passion and belief in herself to avoid sordid actions. Thanks for reading and commenting, Siobhan. Have a wonderful weekend … Be Safe

  18. Mr W. I wonder who that could be? The sleaze behind the glamour has become all too public. Let’s hope it at least makes this sort of scene stop happening from now on.

    • Aahhh yes, Iain you are a great detective. I believe his behavior was deplorable. He should have gotten more than he got but money talks and lawyers work harder when the money is bigger. I believe women are stronger since the #metoo movement. They will be heard and LOUDLY. Thanks for your insightful comment. Have a wonderful weekend … Be Safe
