Friday Fictioneers – Chaos vs. Culture

Under her breath, Katherine grumbled. Moaning all morning about her disinterest in going to Chinatown fell on deaf ears. She hadn’t come to New York City to see food markets, commercial stands filled with counterfeit designer items, or inhaling scents from so many restaurants. She cringed from nausea.

Traveling with Charles was always a problem.

Katherine was looking forward to cultural places like the MOMA museum or a Central Park carriage ride.

You’ll enjoy the chaos was his reply when she questioned his itinerary. Let’s compromise, stay an hour.

Fine, she said.

***** MOMA – Museum of Modern Art is located in Midtown Manhattan in New York City on 53rd Street. It is an Art Museum.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. I wonder if he is going to feel the same visiting museums 🙂 Nicely done.

  2. I’m with Katharine, especially for the carriage ride. I hope he’ll abide by their compromise.

  3. Hmm, if you’re not into shopping (which I am not), even a copy Gucci is not enticing. I don’t much like the chaos of new cities, but once I dive in it can be fun. Experiencing the food of a new place is most important to that. I like your characters and your story, Isadora!

  4. I don’t think a fake handbag is going to change her mind. Still, only an hour and then she can visit the museum 🙂

    • I guess the handbag could be an attraction if she was into shopping. I think she was happen to compromise in anticipation of her sightseeing adventures. Thanks, Michael, for commenting. Have a good weekend … Be safe

  8. Isadora,
There’s no perfect template for holidays when everyone has different interests. This couple seems able to compromise though. Good for them!

  12. Querida Isadora,

Personally I love the markets in Chinatown. 😉 Although I understand about knockoff designer items. Never been to the MOMA. Sigh. Bien escrita mi amiga.

    • Querida Rochelle,
The markets are great fun for barganing and finding unique things. But, it can be overwhelming if you’re not able to handle crowds.
You must see MOMA. Of course, I loved going there each time they changed exhibits. It’s a bit far now. LOL Add it to your Bucket List and the Museum of Natural History is another must see. Gracias por visitar … Be Safe

  14. She doesn’t want counterfeit items, only the real intellectual stuff.
Guess her partner will feel the same when she takes him to places she likes 🙂

    • It’s difficult if people have different interests.
Let’s hope they both have a good time. Thanks, Anita. I appreciate the URL to your story. It was a fun one. I left a comment but didn’t see it. I’ll check back to see if it traveled to your SPAM box. Thanks again …

  17. Sounds like a workable compromise as long as he doesn’t start complaining once they get to the museums.

  18. Aw, you want a little of both in New York! Museums and street meat, Broadway and street performers both, post-covid of course.

    • Oh yes, all of the ones you’ve mentioned in your comment and more. Variety and lack of expectations on vacation are important to have or it can all go down hill really fast. Thanks, Anne, for visiting and commenting. Be Safe
