Inside the Mind of Isadora

Friday Fictioneers – Playing Hooky

Come on, Sandy.

No, I don’t want to get in trouble.

It’s beautiful down by the lake at this time.

No! I mean it.

There’s canoeing and paddling.

I don’t know how to do any of that.

We don’t either. We can learn together.

Ed, Lila, and Ralph begged me to go.

Persuaded, I caved.

I didn’t paddle or canoe but watching the eagles flying above us made it all worthwhile.

In the end, I was happy I’d gone along.

In terror, I stood before my mom’s angry face.

I knew my awful fate by the look on her face.

Author: Inside the Mind of Isadora

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  8. Querida Isadora,

What a shame she had such a lovely time only to end with her mother’s ire. What we don’t know is if the MC acted out of disobedience and deserved what’s to come or if mom is being unreasonable. Well done in any event. Bien escrito mi amiga.

    Shalom y abrazos,

    • Querida Rochelle,
Absolute disobedience … but a teen who wants to experience more. Thanks for pointing the lack of MC description. I had extra words in the beginning when I started the story but didn’t select the correct place to put them. I enjoy the critiques. I grow in my writing. Gracias, mi amiga. Abrazos y caring, Isadora

  9. Thank you Isadora. The pressure of family life…and the silent rewards we grapple at.

  10. Great! Peer pressure. Then enjoyed it, but not in the same way. Saw the value vs mother’s wrath. Good story.

  11. Some parents are soul crushers. We are taught to love and honor our parents, but some aren’t worthy of it. I hope she gets away from that parent asap before it’s too late.

  12. But probably, from the vantage point of years, the experience will have been worth the temporary wrath

  13. It’s especially unfortunate that you got into so much trouble without even being guilty of anything even the least bit dangerous anyway
