Inside the Mind of Isadora

Friday Fictioneers – Big Town Dreams

Lorna May dreamt about the places she’d travel to once she left this small town.

The Ford pickup always needed fixing. It worked fine when they were riding around town, but Dillon wanted her ready for our big city adventures.

His daddy told him he could have the truck when he turned 18. No lie, he handed him the keys right after they cut the cake.

Laying on the flatbed, we’d look up at the stars, dreaming about the places we’d see.

I never did get to see those big towns.

Dillon ran off into a ditch. He died instantly.

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

    • Yes, it is sad when it’s a young person. I have a little more written on this story. I had to whittle it down to 100 words. I’m glad the story held up. Thanks for reading and visiting, Jilly. I appreciate it. Have a great Sunday … Isadora 😎

  5. Poor Dillon, stopped short without having lived. Lorna needs to live their dream for both of them.

  6. Oh dear. From gazing at the stars to lying in a ditch. Such a tragic twist. But life can throw things at you like that, sadly.

  7. Such an abrupt change of atmosphere. But it definitely had me wanting to give Lorna May a big hug. I hope she ends up going to the big city one day!

  12. What a tragic end. Once she is over the trauma maybe she should motivate herself to fulfil those dreams.

    • Querida Rochelle,
Nope, Fiction … just a lil story I felt when I saw the photograph.
I have a lot more to add. It has a good base so I am going to see where I take Lorna May. I just love when Southerners have two names.
Gracias por venir y sus buenas palabras.
      Abrazos y Carino,
      Isadora 😎

  17. Lorna May doesn’t really seem to want to see the big city that much. She didn’t really need Dillon to achieve that dream
