The Guests
In browsing through some of my posts, I came across this one on LOVE from 2016. Today is February 28, 2022, and the last day of the month of LOVE. I thought I’d repost it. Its insightful, touching, and profound, as most fables are. Because of the recent events in the news, we need to focus on LOVE for ourselves and others.

The Guests
A woman was in her garden when she saw three old men with long white beards sitting in her front yard. She did not recognize them.
She said, “I do not know you. Are you hungry? Please come in and have something to eat.”
“Is the man of the house home?”
“No,” she replied. “He’s out.”
“Then we cannot come in,” they replied.
When her husband came home, she told him what had happened.
“Go tell them I am home and invite them to come in!”
The woman went out and invited them in.
“We do not go into a house together,” they replied.
“Why is that?” she asked.
One of the old men explained:
“His name is Wealth, he said, pointing to one of his friends; pointing another, he said, his name is Success, and I am Love.”
Then he added, “Now go in and discuss with your husband which one of us you would like to come in.”
The woman went in and told her husband what they had was said.
Her husband was overjoyed. “How nice!” he said. “Since that is the case, let us invite Wealth!”
His wife disagreed. “My dear, why don’t we invite Success?”
Their daughter-in-law was listening from the other corner of the room.
She jumped in with her suggestion: “Would it not be better to invite Love? Our home will then would be full of Love!”
Let us heed our daughter-in-law’s advice,” said the husband to the wife. “Go out and invite Love to be our guest.”
The woman went out and asked the three old men, “Which one of you is Love? Please come in and be our guest.”
Love got up and started walking towards the house. The other two old men got up and followed him.
Surprised, the woman asked Wealth and Success, “Why are you coming inside? I only invited Love.”
The old men replied: “If you had invited Wealth or Success, the other two of us would have stayed out, but you invited Love.
“Wherever he goes, we go with him.”
“Wherever there is Love, there is Wealth and Success!”
In Love and Light,
Namaste,
Isadora 🙏🏻

Namaste
I honor the place in you
in which the entire universe dwells.
I honor the place in you
which is of Love, and of Truth,
of Light and of Peace.
When you are in that place in you
and I am in that place in me.
We are One.

A truly “lovely” story Isadora … and I think Leonard Cohen’s song “Sisters Of Mercy” is very appropriate ..

I thought it was a well-needed fable for right now.
Thank you …

Ah, what a nice parable of the importance of filling you home with love. My only issue (you know I had to have one, things are never simple with me) is they wouldn’t enter the home without the “man of the house” present, which dates the piece and it wouldn’t exactly track well in today’s society.

HA HA I suppose you do but that makes posting much more interesting. : )
I think most parables/fables are old, old old. It is definitely dated. But, then again, allowing strangers even old men strangersinto your home can be dangerous. That’s a factor right there. I used to always have my door unlocked or open with no malice of danger … until … a friend sent a man over to get my business card for my artwork. He came in and I had a hard time getting him to exit. Now … no way.
The fable – and you know this – is more about our focusing on being gentler kinder people. Sharing love with all despite our feelings of trepidation could change the world for the better. I know that’s not going to happen because the world is changed but we can be hopeful. I’m not religious. I believe in all religions but mainly the religion of being the best good person I can be. I try not to fall short of that. Do I??? Of course, and there’s a lot of a__hole people that prevent it me from being the best me I can be. I just refuse to believe that we can’t do better. Ssoooo … go out there, Madd, and love someone even a cat. lol

I received an invite from a friend to crash at her place in Los Angeles until I got on my feet (back when I was trying to hawk a few screenplays I wrote) and her door stayed unlocked and open 18 hours a day. As I might have mentioned before, I’m a native New Yorker and the moment I enter a place I’m living, the door closes and gets locked. It was just force of habit and it used to drive her insane.

I didn’t have to lock my doors in Brooklyn, NY. It was a neighborhood of brownstones. I don’t think my parents had keys. But, I had a working friend who lived in the Bronx who locked her door and peeped througha keyhole if someone knocked. It was Florida where the man would not leave my home. You just never know where a spacey person will come from. Glad you had a place to crash in California. Expensive in Laguna Beach where my sister lives.Did you get anyone to pick up your screenplays, Madd??? I hope so. 😃

No, unfortunately none of my work got picked up. Lionsgate was interested in optioning one of my science fiction graphic novels and an acquisition executive for a group of Chinese investors was interested in one of my horror screenplays, which meant I took a lot of pitch meetings with a lot of interested people as my work was kicked up the ladder. In Hollywood fashion, everyone loved the stories and were working toward turning them into studio projects…then one day the calls stopped coming in and no one would return any of my calls. No one ever tells you directly they’re no longer interested, they simply pretend you don’t exist. It’s an extremely bizarre business practice. When I got tired of playing the game, I return to New York. California might be a nice place to live…but Los Angeles is a hollow, soulless place.

Gosh … I thought it was just my sister who had a hollow soul. Sorry about not getting picked up. I’m sure it was a very frustrating time. They missed out on great writing. I suppose its like getting a role in a broadway musical. Lots of come backs but no lead roles. There should be an island of misfit writers and dancers. lol Have a wonderful week … Izzy 😎

Oh, I suppose I should address the rest of your reply as well (my good for glue old horse brain sometimes only locks onto one topic).
We’re in the same boat relgion-wise, I think. Faith does not reside within me but I don’t knock people’s chosen religion if it leads you to do no harm. I simple don’t subscribe to being good in order to get a reward after you die. I prefer the Santa motto of being good for goodness sake (a lofty goal that I’m sometimes actually able to achieve).
As for your suggestion of me pursuing cat-love…people get arrested for that sort of thing around my way.

HA HA Well … I do have faith. It just doesn’t have a title. I try to have compassion and do good for the sake of good. It’s more about my sensitive nature of ‘Do no Harm’. My Siamese are sad you won’t get an adoptee from a shelter to keep you company. They may keep trying. You know Siamese, they can be persuasive. lol
