Welcome … grab a cup of coffee, iced or hot tea and herbal tea. I’m having a cappuccino. The photo on the left shows one I enjoyed many times on board at Cafe Baci.
It’s been brutally hot this week in sunny Florida. The pool is the only way to cool down. Gardening will have to wait until the temps drop. The orchids are thrilled with the afternoon rain which brings on the humidity. For me, afternoon humidity means siesta time.
In my last cafe chat, I wrote (read here) about being away from blogging on a pre-birthday cruise. We decided on a cruise now instead of July, my official birthday month, because of the heavy hurricane season predicted for this summer. COVID shut down the cruise industry causing great financial losses. Many cruise ships are departing with less than full passenger capacity, and with huge discounts. It felt safer than my previous cruises with fewer people. Besides the theater and the casino, masks are not required throughout the ship. The staff wore masks everywhere. Some regular activities were canceled, like dancing, karaoke, and bingo. I have to admit I always look forward to dancing. It was a disappointment.
I think you might enjoy a special gesture I received from our assistant dinner hostess:
Pictured above is Sweet Jaqueline, assistant hostess on our cruise. She created an origami lotus flower for me. It was an unexpected gift from her heart ❤️
With all they do, the last thing she needed was a craft project.
She was missing her mother who is watching her two toddlers. She has a boy and a girl. Yes, she showed me a pic. They are adorable. Four months away from them brought up emotional moments for her. I share the same birthday as her mother. My ❤️ heart sang with joy ❤️
Our first night at dinner Jacqueline introduced herself, I mentioned that I usually forget names. Her eyes twinkled above the mask as she pointed out that I could remember her name because of Jacqueline Kennedy.
Then, she chuckled quickly saying, “But, I wear a uniform.”
Have a great week … Isadora

Ha Ha my birthday is in July (20th). It was a fun cruise. I’m o k with it being an early celebration/vacation. My kids and grandkids will visit on different weeks in July to help with more celebrations. When you get to 75 you have to celebrate more than once. Thank you … Isadora 😎

A celebration of a life well lived, and long may it be so. I spread mine over several days too, but I’m still young at only 71! 😊😊😊

I’m happy you celebrate on several days too. I have a grandson and his fiancee visiting next week to celebrate. My daughter and grandson will come the week after that to celebrate, and my other daughter, hubby and friend will be here for another celebration after that week too. It’s a good thing I don’t eat cake. But, everyone else is looking forward to the sweet yummies. Thank you, Crispina. Have a wonderful weekend … Isadora 😎

How great to take a cruise and a great time for sure. Your hostess seems really sweet. I couldn’t imagine being away for 4 months. Ive never been on a big cruise. It just hasn’t been something we’ve cared to do. Maybe someday.

Yes, the hostess was engaging and sweet. Perhaps, one day, you may decide a cruise is for you.
Thank you for visiting and commenting. I really appreciate it.

My uncle worked in the cruise industry for many years so I am familiar with the long stretches of time being away from family. I think by that time his daughter was much older — like junior high and high school — where she’s more independent and can care for herself.

It’s a difficult job when you work on a ship. There are good things too but missing their families is the most difficult part. Thank you for visiting and commenting.

I can’t imagine ever going on a cruise after all the covid stuff (and I’m not a lover of ocean cruises or long plane flights either). If you enjoy cruising it would have been an added bonus to have less fellow passengers and more room to move. Glad you had a good time.

Yes, cruising isn’t for everyone. I don’t enjoy flying, too, short or long flights. In florida there are ports everywhere which makes it easier to leave on one. Thanks for reading and commenting, Leanne.

I am glad you can cruise again. We went on a boat trip down the Rhine and we started off with masks in public areas then the rules changed and we were allowed to dance again.

The masks rules are confusing, at times. I always have one with me just in case. Thanks for visiting and commenting.

I love the paper flower! How wonderful. Your line about them having something better to do made me laugh out loud. I am glad you were able to go on the cruise even though it wasn’t in your birthday month. Thank you for sharing.

Isadora – that paper flower is beautiful and you are right that they have enough work to do and so making time for a flower creation means you touched her heart !
How awesome

She couldn’t have been nicer. It was an instant connection for us. If I helped her get through the emotions she had on this one cruise, then I’m blessed by her joy.
Unfortunately, they cannot exchange personal information. It’s will be a memorable gift, as well. Have a wonderful Sunday … Isadora 😎

A gorgeous story Isadora .. cruise friendships are special, and Jacqueline was certainly special .. I enjoy my Pacific cruises, but I don’t know when I’ll go again … my friend who I travel with, he’s had a bad stroke 🤗💕🌏⛴

I’m so sorry to hear about your friends health. I hope he is on the mend. Strokes can be challenging afterwards.
There was a gentleman we met at the martini bar who was married 67 years. His wife went on a tennis torunament vacation, he went on the cruise. He said he never felt lonely when he traveled alone. People were always very friendly. I hope you get to go once again real soon, Ivor. I have knee issues that didn’t bother me onboard; however, once I was home it took a few weeks for them to stop hurting. You have to travel while your body allows you to. The ship personel are dsicouraged to exchange their information. Jacqueline will be a memory I will treasure forever. Thanks … Isadora 😎

It was more of a relaxation cruise than anything else. The ship stopped at 4 ports, but we got off at two only. We’d been to the others many times. I was in need of a vacation due to lock down. Everyone was COVID tested before they boarded unless you had a 2 day prior test results. We had a 3 day prior test result, which they would not accept. 😳 🙁 Hubby felt that the $180 dollars charge was unnecessary due to one day. We had no choice they wouldn’t let us board. It was the only annoyance of the trip.
I love when I snap a pic and it turns out well. The coffee cup photo is from an after dinner coffee we had one afternoon. We went often. The coffee was always delicious. The cactus flowers are real. They were so perfect I thought they were plastic. Nope … real. Have a blessed Sunday, Janet. 🙏🏻
