Friday Fictioneers – Awaiting the Letter

friday-fictioneers-111816-bjc3b6rn-14His hands are shaking.

He can barely get the key into the mailbox slit.

Will the letter be in there?

He holds the letter firmly; runs his fingers across the calligraphy engraved return address.

Feeling unsteady, he sits on the dank urine-stench steps.

This letter could be my way out of this dump.

No one has faith in my musical talent. I’ll prove them wrong.

He’s tired of playing jazz at the smokey ‘Cafe Wha?’.

“Dear Randolph,”

“We regret that you do not qualify, at this time, to be in our Juilliard Music Program.”

Uncontrollably sobbing.

Perhaps, everyones right.

Sunday Song – If It Be Your Will

leonard-cohen-5-cn_leonardcohen

On November 7, the sad news was announced that the prominent poet, novelist, musician, singer, songwriter and paint artist, Leonard Cohen had died. He was born on September 21,1934 in Westmount, Quebec, Canada.
His work explored religion, politics, isolation, sexuality, and personal relationships. He won the Chester Mac Naghten Literary Competition for the poems “Sparrows” and “Thoughts of a Landsman.”

His song “Suzanne” became a hit for Judy Collins who subsequently covered a number of Cohen’s other songs, as well, and was for many years his most covered song. He was also associated with many other performers including Sharon Robinson, Jennifer Warnes and Anjani Thomas. ©wikipedia

During the New York City’s folk scene in Greenwich Village, I had the pleasure of being exposed to his words from other poets who were reciting his poems and aspiring to be as good.

It’s a formidable loss of an incredibly revered visionary artist.

May you Rest in Peace,

Isadora

If It Be Your Will

If it be your will that I speak no more
And my voice be still as it was before
I will speak no more, I shall abide until
I am spoken for, if it be your will

If it be your will that a voice be true
From this broken hill, I will sing to you
From this broken hill, all your praises they shall ring
If it be your will to let me sing

From this broken hill all your praises they shall ring
If it be your will to let me sing

If it be your will, if there is a choice
Let the rivers fill, let the hills rejoice
Let your mercy spill on all these burning hearts in Hell
If it be your will to make us well

And draw us near, and bind us tight
All your children here in their rags of light
In our rags of light, all dressed to kill
And end this night, if it be your will, if it be your will

Nurture Yourself – Be Grateful

transform common days
into thanksgivings,
turn routine days into joy
and, change ordinary opportunities
into blessings.

~~~~~~
I had the opportunity to travel to the rainforest of Coast Rica.
It was a breathtaking adventure.
Our tour guide was extremely informative.
He took us to 2 churches too.
I enjoy visiting and photography churches.
This small chapel was nestled among the trees.
It was quaint and charming.
The gardens were filled with luscious shades of greens.
He told us many weddings have been performed in it.
I’m grateful I was able to have this experience.
Is there somewhere you’ve traveled or a special place you’re grateful to have visited?
Be the Light of a GRATEFUL SPIRIT
Friday Fictioneers – He Rocked
friday-fictioneers-102116-claire-fuller-8
“Look, I’ve a magical wand,” Willie said.
“No, you don’t. It’s a piece of rope”.
He always found odd objects to store in those cubicles dad made for him.
~~~~~

Mom rocked in her chair and stared; disconnected. It all started when she was told Willie was retarded.

She screamed, “No. You’re wrong.”

They weren’t.

He was.

She was angry. She took him out of school.

Blame.

He listened to music all day. Rocked his head, side to side, on his bed listening to his portable radio.

She told him he was special.

At 14, he raped her; unaware, she was his mother.

Nurturing Yourself – with Autumn Colors

Autumn is a beautiful time of year. The trees are changing from their summer clothes and donning a variety of fall colors.

Beautiful crimsons, golden yellows, mustards and cadmium;

verdant grassy greens fading to blue and purple with each mornings dew;

a feast for our eyes to witness before the impending winter snows.

It’s a memory for me as I don’t experience those changes here in my beloved Florida.

A walk near the shore of the beach on a winters balmy windy day with peaceful ocean sounds has replaced those fall days I left behind.

Commune with the beauty Mother Nature has provided for you for nurturing moments.

#Hurricane Matthew

hurricane-matthew-hurricane-matthew-still-092916-ceb

This last week has been a roller coaster ride.
We’ve been on hurricane watch.
Originally, it wasn’t coming our way. The islands of Cuba, Haiti and the
Bahamas were right in the eye of the storm. They were all hit. The devastation seen on television is frightening for us waiting for news of what will happen next.

We were advised to prepare with supplies of water, flash lights, batteries,
non-perishable can foods, a battery powered radio and a plastic bag with important papers.

I rode out the storm ‘Hurricane Charlie’ in 2004. One of my daughters lost her home in that one. We lost electricity and water for a week. Roads were blocked by fallen trees and debris. We had no air conditioning, no stove (electric), no water (forced bathing in our pool) and friends crashing at our place because we were slightly safer from the more severe areas.

The best predictions can’t say which way the storm is going to head.

Although it’s heading to hit the east coast of Florida, the storm surges, high winds and torrential rains will still effect me here where I live on the west coast. In addition, we have family and friends who live on the east coast in the area where the storm is supposed to hit.

I’m sure I will lose internet service. Plus, my mind isn’t in a writing mode.

Once, all is back to normal I will be back.

Stay Safe … Stay Happy … Stay in Love …

Isadora

Nurture Yourself – with Serenity

Bird on Manasota Beach- signed jpg (1024x681)

Because of our stress filled lives, we all need to create a quiet, calm and peacefully still place where we can feel serenity.

Whether you’re someone who meditates or not the focus is to clear your mind of surging thoughts.

You need to sit quietly and focus on bringing yourself into a calm state.

It’s a difficult task because your mind wants to run back to those problems you want to solve or eliminate.

Your imagination can help with this difficult task. It can provide you with dream-like places that help you to to calm down.

I like to visualize a garden filled with flowers of every imaginable color. It’s an image that can make anyone smile.

Listening to soothing music can help bring your mind stillness.

Nurturing yourself at the end of the day can help you reach a peaceful relaxing sleep.

It can be a great health benefit. Serenity can bring back a soothing peace we’re all seeking.

Can you imagine a place of serenity?
