WDYS – Thomas Reads Aloud

#WhatDoYouSee #139

Teachers saw the possibilities in Thomas. From the first day he entered the classroom, he was enthusiastic about learning everything there was to learn.

His mother had always taken pride in the way he looked. His father wore vests, and collared shirts, Thomas wanted to wear them too. When she heard the children would be reading from their primer on Friday, she was as excited as Thomas but nervous too.

Had he sufficiently learned to read after three months?

She thought he was bright, but she was his mother. After all, he was only 6.

She began to have thoughts of her own mother’s words:

A child is like a butterfly in the wind.

Some can fly higher than others

But, each one flies the best it can.

Why compare one to another?

Each one is different.

Each one is special.

Each one is beautiful.

She decided to have faith in her little Thomas.

A Child is Born

The urban sunrise was brilliant.

They enjoyed breakfast on the patio.

A game of chess in the garden was their plan for later that afternoon.

Suddenly, a cramp caused her body to flinch.

The intense suffering of childbirth had begun.

A precious child would be joining them soon.

Their lack of experience weighed heavy, draining their emotions.

They felt anxious; yet, they had been waiting months for this moment.

With tear-filled eyes, she grasped his hand and flinched again.

The physical pain would soon reward them with a glorious gift.

The gift will fill their hearts with immeasurable love and happiness.

Inky Mess – PPP#3

Olivia, where on earth have you been with Inky?

Pointing, Olivia said, he did it, Momma.

He did what?

Well, he was running really fast. I tried to keep up, but I couldn’t.

Then, he got to the grimy pond and jumped in. I had to jump in and get him. When I got out, there was dirty mud all over Inky and me.

No more jumping in the pond from now on, or I’ll have to keep Inky in his safety cage.

Okay, let’s get you both cleaned up and ready for a nap.

Yes, Momma, replied Olivia obediently.

Bubbles … Bubbles … Bubbles

Bubbles
blowing in the wind
I try to catch them
I can’t, what a sin

They float, they lift
with the currents of wind
Up, up, they soar
higher and higher in the sky

Gentle crystal bubbles
radiant colors, sparkling
Iridescent and glistening bright
rising, rising, soon out of sight

What child or adult doesn’t enjoy playing with bubbles?

A combination of dish soap or shampoo and water create the liquid that can provide an afternoon of fun.

A thin layer of soap film forms hollow spheres when blown through an object. The bubbles don’t last very long before bursting but children always find it exciting to try and catch one. It’s always been a fun pastime.

Frank @ A Franke Angle hosts Beach Walk Reflections.

Last week, he wrote about bubbles at the beach.

His insightful essays on the topic are a pleasure read and worth a look.
