Orchid Smiles

Today started with a beautiful gift.

I’ve been growing this orchid plant for 2 1/2 years.

The green stems on the plant, always look healthy but no flowers.

I’d purchased the plant at a garden sale. There wasn’t a name tag or color listed.flower-yellow-orchid-611-webAs I have a great many purple, lavender, pinky purple and white, I was willing to gamble on what

color this one was going to be. BUT …. no flowers for 2 1/2 years.

I fertilized. I watered. I placed it in different garden areas for better light.

Nothing ….

Then, this morning, I was given my gift. These glorious yellow and orangey edged blooms.

I love Mother Nature. She never disappoints.

Have an orchid smiles day ….

Her Sunflower Smile

Flash Fiction FAW - photo-20160125132605717

Nadia was stunned at how well the sunflowers had grown.

As a little child, she watched her grandmother, Oksana, cook traditional Russian meals while recounting tales of her journey to this new land she would eventually call home.

She told Nadia she’d traveled by boat for weeks. It was crowded. They were hungry. She had no belongings. The small amount of sunflower seeds she’d brought to eat were almost gone by the time they’d arrived.

Oksana felt bewildered by the new language, new customs and clothing.

She decided to plant the leftover sunflower seeds as a remembrance of her home left behind.

They grew tall. Bigger than in Russia.

Nadia never forgot her grandmothers love of sunflowers.

She remembered her smile was as big as a sunflower.

Nadia planted sunflowers at her grave.

I wish for you
that unexpected moment of bareness
where the glow of your heart
touches everything it meets
so you can’t help but remember
how dear it is to be alive.

Sunday Song – Flor Palida

If someone tells you a certain
song is important to them,
You should close your eyes,
turn up the volume
and really listen.
By the end of the song,
you will know that person much better.

Make Magic Happen

Flash Fiction Sept.2015 - wpid-photo-20150921073220157The funeral was exactly the way my grandmother had wanted.

And, why wouldn’t it be?

She pre-paid and planned for it all before she died.

Always the forward-thinking woman, no one was going to be able to leave any details out.

The rose garden was to be her final resting place.

She’d say, “Where else would I want to be?”

“These roses have helped me create beautiful paintings that will live on in the homes of so many, long after I’m gone”.
Her garden was magical. She could grow just about anything.

I’m sure she’s looking down at us all and saying,“Pick up a paint brush and make magic happen”.

Little Green Orchids

Flower Green Orchid - saying.web2015©isadoraartandphotography.com

If you could see the miracle of a single flower clearly,

our whole life would change.  Buddha

 **************

A morning delight was waiting for me today.

New little green orchids were smiling and wishing me a good day.

As you can see, there is another bud that needs to open but I just had to photograph it.

The miracle of Mother Nature surprising me everyday.

Awakening Garden

Flowers - It's Spring 560   2015 ©art and photography by Isadora

Listen to the buzzing bees
Hear the bird sing
The garden is awakening
Because It’s Spring
It’s Spring.

I ask not for a larger garden
Nor for special seeds
But, for soil to grow
Vivid flowers in Spring
In Spring.
