Nurture Yourself – Sitting Alone Listening to the Silence

Friends …. It is time for me to take a brief respite.

I wanted to leave you with a nurturing post. I wrote this one in 2015.

I think the meaning is still significant.

I will be out on the high seas gathering energy from the wind and salty air:

Listening to the Music of the waves. I leave you with a

Nirinjan Kaur – “I Am”

Her voice is melodic. The words powerfully enlightening.

Sitting alone listening to the silence … I ponder that … today is a day like any other day.

Each day, we rise and hope to fill our lives with new and exciting discoveries.

Each of us has a different vision for what those discoveries are going to be.

In the end, despite what our own individual discoveries turn out to be, we all have to go into them in pretty much the same way. We have to rise and gather up our energy to go into whatever it is we are going to do. Some of us have an exact plan on how to do that; some of us don’t. Those that do not have an exact plan face the greatest difficulty because they have no direction.

How do we find our exact plan??? I can’t say.

Is it something we develop while we’re being raised by our parents?

Are the teachers or religious leaders of our churches part of the influence for our decisions?

Is it instinctual to know what we want to search for in our adventure to discovery?

Is it important to have a need for discovery or is it something told to us that we must do?

These are important and very difficult questions to ask ourselves. These are questions that some of us can’t answer and struggle daily to unravel. This is the puzzle of our existence.

Just pondering …. while sitting alone listening to the silence.

Nurture Yourself – Love is Energy

We are the sum of experiences that we encounter as we go through life. Day to day struggles and triumphs are experinced by all of the worlds creatures. As human beings, when we encounter a challenge, we have freedom to choose on how we react. Every decision that we make leads us down a different road. We will never come to exactly the same crossroads. Every decision that we make has significance. The tiniest choices that we make reverberates through the entire universe. ©info click here

Nurture Yourself – Reflecting on our Mother’s Words

zen-zen[1]

When we reflect on our lives we can’t help but include in our thoughts the one person who’s had the most influence on us:

‘Our Mother.’

She forms the person we’ll be from the beginning of conception. We’re who we are because of her. Despite the way we may feel about her, she is the major player in the formation of our lives.

There are lessons a mother teaches us but it’s always up to us to put them into effect.

It’s always up to us to be in charge of our decisions.

Sometimes, we ruminate and get stuck on what we weren’t given.

This shouldn’t matter.

For in the end, if we fail or if we succeed, we should never forget that the final choices are always up to us.

The poem below reflects a Mother’s words eloquently … enjoy the Secret Garden as you read.

Secret Garden – Reflection

Reflections of a Mother…

I gave you life,
but cannot live it for you.

I can teach you things,
but I cannot make you learn.

I can give you directions,
but I cannot be there to lead you.

I can allow you freedom,
but I cannot account for it.

I can take you to church,
but I cannot make you believe.

I can teach you right from wrong,
but I cannot always decide for you.

I can buy you beautiful clothes,
but I cannot make you beautiful inside.

I can offer you advice,
but I cannot accept it for you.

I can give you love,
but I cannot force it upon you.

I can teach you to share,
but I cannot make you unselfish.

I can teach you respect,
but I cannot force you to show honor.

I can advise you about friends,
but cannot choose them for you.

I can advise you about sex,
but I cannot keep you pure.

I can tell you the facts of life,
but I can’t build your reputation.

I can tell you about drink,
but I can’t say “no” for you.

I can warn you about drugs,
but I can’t prevent you from using them.

I can tell you about lofty goals,
but I can’t achieve them for you.

I can teach you about kindness,
but I can’t force you to be gracious.

I can warn you about sins,
but I cannot make you moral.

I can pray for you,
but I cannot make you walk with God.

I can tell you how to live,
but I cannot give you eternal life.

I can love you with unconditional love all of my life
….. and I will.

Nurture Yourself – Form Nurturing Friendships

Friendships make our lives meaningful because man is a social animal and cannot survive alone. There are numerous occasions when we’ve shared joy, sorrow, happiness, and many other feelings with our friends. They’ve offered support during our ups and downs. They form a chain within our personal society.

What Is Friendship?

“One who multiplies joys, divides grief, and whose honesty is invaluable.”
“One who understands our silence.”
“A volume of sympathy bound in cloth.”
“A watch which beats true for all time and never runs down.”
“A friend is the one who comes in when the whole world has gone out.”

The countless friendships in our lives help nurture us. They bring us a greater degree of exhilaration. Our friendships bring meaning to us by providing love, support and the encouragement we need to make it through difficult times. We can enjoy and celebrate these wonderful moments in life when there are special friendships making our lives complete.
Friendships are what pull us through the hard times, and make the good times meaningful. Take time to Nurture the connections that uplift you.
Are your friendships nurturing you???

Friday Fictioneers – Hell or Opportunity

Stoic, Carmen sat in the back of the taxicab.

She scrutinized farms and gated mansions they passed.

Her parents told her she was going to the small town where her mother was raised.

But, this was her senior year.

How could they?

Why?

No answers.

Irrational gibberish about going back to her roots; her roots not mine.

“You’ll attend the Benedictine Catholic Academy: Nuestra Señora de la Valvanera.”

“Your great aunt will care for you.”

Carmen wept uncontrollable. The trauma was tearing her apart.

“How dare you question this opportunity,” her mother sneered.

“But, why?”

“Because, we know what’s best.”

Friday Fictioneers – Bubba’s Gone Too Far

friday-fictioneers-21717-broken-face-liz

“Maw,” Becky Sue whined, tears streaming down her face.

“Child, look what you’ve done,” Momma said pointing to the floor.
“Ya’ll dragged muddy dirt in. I’m near ‘bout to lose my mind with all the work that’s gotta be done ‘round here.”

“But, Maw, come see. Bubba’s done a real bad thing,” Becky Sue bawled.
“Please Maw, please come see.”

“Fine! I suppose it’s gotta be important.”

“Look,” Becky Sue pointed.

“Lordy that child’s done gone too far this time. Drinkin’, smokin’ and breakin’ your favorite dolly.”
“Go find me a switch, Becky Sue. Someone ‘round here needs some learnin’.”

Friday Fictioneers – Forever All Alone

friday-fictioneers-21017-mystery-chair-ted-strutz

Darkness covers me, like a blanket
Shadows, surround my thoughts
My arms wrap tightly round me
Deserted, no ones home
You keep me isolated
My only friend, just you
Smiles ne’er intrude our space
With you, I’m safe and whole
The thorns of my emotions
Keep rising from deep inside
Always in your shadows
Always in your arms
I cannot see the rose
Only thorns of pain
Madness all around me
Keeps me huddled tight
Tomorrow, won’t be different
It will always be the same
Fear keeps me shaking
My spirits tattered, worn
Darkness gives me comfort
Forever, all alone

Nurture Yourself – Have Faith in Your Other Hand

Jenny’s Pearls

mermaid-screen-shot-2017-02-07-at-7-01-40-pm

Five year old Jenny was a pretty blue eyed, blond, angelic looking child.
She was sweet, loving and caring to everyone she met. Her mother and father
were very proud of Jenny’s big heart and giving nature.

One day, Jenny was shopping with her mother. They were passing a glass case when Jenny noticed these beautiful plastic pearls.

“Can I get them Mother?” Jenny asked.

“It is a very pretty pearl necklace but it is expensive. The cost is $2.50.” she calmly told Jenny.

She could see the disappointment Jenny’s face.

Feeling her sadness she said, “If you would like to do chores to pay for the pearl necklace I will get them for you today”.

“Oh, yes,” Jenny said.

“Well, we can make a chore chart when we get home”, her mother told her.

Jenny agreed and her mother purchased the pearl necklace for her.

As soon as the chart was up on the refrigerator, Jenny started to do her chores. A week later was her birthday. Her grandmother gave her one dollar as her gift. Soon, she had paid for the beautiful pearl necklace.

Jenny adored her little pearl necklace. She wore it all the time; except when she showered. She wore it to the store where it had been purchased and everyone admired it. She was smiling each and every time someone commented on its beauty.

Jenny’s daddy loved her very much; as much as Jenny loved her pearl necklace. When it was bedtime he would read her one of her favorite bedtime stories.

One night when he finished the story, he said, “Jenny do you love me?”

“Oh yes, Daddy, you know I love you.” She said hugging him tightly.

“Well, then, give me your pearls.”

“Oh, Daddy, not my pearls,” Jenny said. “But you can have Rosie, my favorite doll. Remember her? You gave her to me last year for my birthday. And you can have her tea party outfit, too.” “Okay?”

“No, darling, that’s okay”. Her father said as he brushed her cheek with a kiss. “Good night, little one.”

A week later, her father once again asked Jenny after her story, “Do you love me?”

“Oh yes, Daddy, you know I love you.” She hugged him tighter than the night before.

“Well, then give me your pearls,” he said.

“Oh, Daddy, not my pearls, Jenny said. But you can have Ribbons, my toy horse. Do you remember her? She’s my favorite. Her hair is so soft, and you can play with it.
You can braid it and everything. You can have Ribbons, if you want, Daddy,” the little girl said to her father.

“No, that’s okay,” her father said and brushed her cheek again with a kiss. “God bless you little one, sweet dreams.”

Several days later, when Jenny’s father came into her room to read her a story, Jenny was sitting on her bed and her lip was quivering.

When her father asked, “What’s wrong princess?”

Jenny said, “Here, Daddy.” She held out her hand and when she opened it her beloved pearl necklace were inside. She let it slip into her father’s hand.

With one hand her father held the plastic pearls and with the other he pulled out of his pocket a blue velvet box. Inside of the box was a strand of real pearls. They were glistening with shine. He had them all along. He was waiting for Jenny to give up the plastic ones so he could give her the real ones.

Instead of a story that night, Jenny’s father told her why he had asked her to give him the pretty pearl necklace:

He explained that in life there will be things that she will want to hold onto. These could be things that are harmful or will keep her from having a happy life. It could be a partner, a relationship, a friend, a habit or obsession. These things could bring her danger and could be impossible to let go of. He wanted her to believe that with her own inner strength of love of self she could let go of these things and still be whole.

When something is wounding – let go.  Something more precious could and will come along. She needed to have faith that within her all things were possible. Because, the most important part of who she was could always be found deep inside.

Sometimes, it will be hard to see what’s in the other hand but do believe this; one thing is true they are always working together …..  2017©Isadora DeLaVega

Lovingly Holding You

heart-in-hands

His touch sent chills through her body.

She had waited months to have these feelings.

In no way could she have imagined the tenderness of his touch.

Others had told her to prepare for it.

She thought she had.

No, it wasn’t what she’d prepared for.

She knew it was an intimate love that only she could feel.

Especially, when she held him.

Forever, she would remember the warm fondness they were sharing.

She’d carry it in her heart, selfishly, forever.

But, for now, she’d enjoy these moments of lovingly holding her son.

Alone.
