We do it by focusing on the positive things in our lives. We need to stop comparing ourselves to others. There are times we lose sight of the wonderful person we are.
We look in the mirror and see flaws. We don’t like what we see.
We try to change ourselves into the people we’re comparing ourselves to and try to create that person we see in them.
The negative messages we were told while growing up create hollow spaces in our minds. They carve until they sculpt our emotions. If we look at those negative messages, now, we might not fit into them; yet, still believe them. They’re difficult to erase. They need to be filled in with positive affirmations about ourselves.
Only, we can change those negative messages.
Only, we can start to look at ourselves in order to form the persona we really are.
We can create and develop more of a positive mind.
We can strengthen our positive minds for a better way of being by letting go of those negative thoughts. We need to become real with ourselves by accepting the entire person we are despite what others may think.
The dome street lights cast a shadow across the isolated road.
Parking near a light, he props his law book on the steering wheel and begins reading. In two days, he’ll take his finals. Could his days on the street soon be over?
His radio blares a call about shots fired.
He turns the red and blue flashing lights on as he makes his way to the location.
Speed spurs him into the adrenaline cave.
These calls never end well. Shootings are headline news.

Depression is an illness that impacts the brain. It’s a real illness hidden for too long.
Anyone suffering from depression will tell you, it’s not imaginary or “all in your head.”
Depression is more than just feeling “down.”
It is a serious illness caused by changes in brain chemistry.
Research tells us that other factors contribute to the onset of depression, including genetics, changes in hormone levels, certain medical conditions, stress, grief or difficult life circumstances.
Any of these factors alone or in combination can precipitate changes in brain chemistry that lead to depression’s many symptoms.
On occasion, we all experience something that sets us back in our emotional health. Life hands us challenges we need to meet. We’re not always able to accept challenges that make us feel excluded. But, we can give ourselves permission to be ‘Who We Are’ despite the behavior of those who decide we aren’t acceptable in their world.
Often, we have preconceived notions of who we should be based on our need to fit in. It may start early in our lives because we want to be liked or want to be part of the so-called in crowd. We imagine ourselves to be like others if we dress, talk and act like them. We behave and do things we normally wouldn’t do because we don’t like the feeling of being excluded.
Don’t pretend. Be who you are. You are special …
It isn’t selfish to make yourself a priority. It isn’t selfish to take care of yourself. It isn’t selfish to love yourself. For in doing so, you have much more to give to others. More importantly, you’ve given yourself a far greater gift of love than anyone could ever give you.
Give Yourself Special love Gifts everyday …
Wake in the morning and say – “Today, I love myself more than yesterday”.
Dream more while you’re awake – manifesting positive dreams creates positive energy.
Smile – challenge yourself to make 3 people a day smile.
Place all past issues where they belong; in the past. Don’t ruin today because of them.
Time heals all things, eventually. Give time – time.
Don’t compare yourself to others. Their lives may not be so special.
Spend time with people over 70 – they’ve experienced far more than you and can guide you.
Spend more time with children under 6 – they know how to play and you’ve forgotten.
No matter how you feel – get up, get dressed and be a part of the adventures of life.
Live with Energy – Enthusiasm – Empathy – Faith – Self-Love
Be the ship that travels calm waters to places that nourish you. Cruise away from places that keep you from being who you are. Bring people along with you who let you be you. Discard the others since they will only bring your ship down.

Venom flowed through her veins. Hate was a mild word for what she felt for him.
She had him taken to an institution. He would be there for life.
Her mother died shortly before he was placed there. Doctors said her frail body was from malnutrition and improper medical care. At 88, she needed home health care. Instead, her mentally challenged son was her only caretaker.
Why was she angry at him?
It helped soothe her guilt.
Banned from his mothers funeral by her, he raged. The perfect storm for him to be taken away.

Harry stares out the window. He sits and stares since his Ruby’s brutal murder.
He’d taken her to the museum; then, a dimly lit dinner. She was beautiful.
Harry noticed the waiter leer at her. She provoked men with her beauty.
Her eyes the color of emeralds.
Now, he sit and stares.
He doesn’t care if he leaves the room.
He doesn’t pay bills; watch television or knows who feeds him.
His life is whatever passes outside the window.
All he sees are changing seasons, joggers, passing cars and Ruby’s ghost.
This beautiful story has a simple, yet important message .
Sometimes, it’s the simplest of stories that make us ponder the most.
The Black Dot
One day, a professor entered the classroom.
He asked his students to prepare for a surprise test.
They all waited anxiously at their desks for the exam to begin.
The professor handed out the exams with the text facing down, as usual.
Once he handed them out he asked the students to turn the papers over.
To everyone’s surprise, there were no questions
just a black dot in the center of the sheet of paper.
The professor seeing the expression on their faces,
told them the following:
“I want you to write about what you see there”.
The students, confused, got started with the inexplicable task.
At the end of the exam, the professor took all of the papers,
and began reading them out loud in front of all the students.
All of them, with no exception, focused on the black dot,
trying to explain its position in the center of the sheet of paper.
After all had been read, the classroom silent,
the professor began to explain:
“I’m not going to grade you on this exam,
I just wanted to give you something to think about.
No one wrote about the white part of the paper.
Everyone focused on the black dot.
And, the same happens in our lives.
We have a white piece of paper to enjoy
but we always focus on the black spots.
Our life is a gift given to us, with love and care.
We always have reasons to celebrate:
Nature renewing itself everyday
Our friends around us
The job that provides our livelihood
The family we’ve been blessed with
The miracles we see daily
Yet, we insist on focusing only on the dark spot:
The health issues that bother us
The lack of money
The complicated relationship with a family member
The disappointment with a friend
Our past childhood or current failings
The dark spots are very small
when compared to everything we have in our lives,
but, they’re the ones that pollute our mind.
Take your eyes away from the black dots in your life.
Enjoy each one of your blessings,
each moment that life gives you.
I honor the place in you
in which the entire universe dwells.
I honor the place in you
which is of Love, and of Truth,
of Light and of Peace.
When you are in that place in you
and I am in that place in me.
We are One.
