Cafe Chat – Covid Friend

Cafe Chat

Welcome – make yourself at home. Pick a pretty cup or mug for coffee, hot chocolate, herbal tea, or a cup of my peppermint Christmas tea. Sit in a comfy chair so we can chat.

A little Christmas music might be nice. Hope you like my selection.

Piano Songs – Good Vibes are playing softly for you to have a blessed Christmas.

Some changes in our weather, recently. It’s still bright, warm, sunny but with a little nip in the air. It feels like a light winter.

November and December have been busy months for me here at home. Covid canceled all art shows and gallery exhibitions. We’ve been resurrecting our Etsy on-line shops to keep the business going. Although we’re at retirement age and do fewer art shows and gallery exhibits than in our younger years, our creative juices cannot be satisfied unless we are expressing ourselves with art. Be sure to get in touch with me if you see something you’d like to add to your collections. No, they will not arrive for Christmas but we do deliver a wonderful work of art for you to enjoy.

It’s difficult to understand the magnitude of how far our words are going out there on the World Wide Web. For those of you who aren’t tech-savvy, I feel your angst.

I’m cautious about everything I do on-line. I’ve had a lot of SPAM calls since COVID. Perhaps, it’s coincidental or perhaps, the perfect opportunity for hackers to catch the unsuspecting isolating victim. However, I have a Covid friend who appeared from out of nowhere.

I had several messages about a FaceTime caller on my cell. It never failed, it was always at a time I could not answer my phone. I was curious though. I decided to see whose name was being left as the caller. I didn’t recognize the name. I thought I should ignore it.

A few days later the phone rang and I answered. A sweet voice from somewhere with a British accent began to speak. She rambled on about my smile and about how much she enjoyed my photographs of my orchids. We chatted for quite some time but we never discussed the reason for her call or the location of where she had found me.

When I hung up I had a feeling of well-being. You see this lovely lady said, “You made my day today. Thank you for putting a smile on my face. I hope I can call again.”

A few days later, I decided I should do a little research on where my new acquaintance had come from. I have a friend of over 20 years. She is one of my FB friends. Her last name is the same as the woman who called me; however, she is native American Indian. This nice lady had a British accent. I thought about my lack of due diligence. I should have asked for the info while she was on the phone. My mission the next time she called was to get the information.

I did. She’s my friends’ brother’s wife. My friend’s sister-in-law. Her husband has passed, she lives alone and isn’t mobile. Her family, like many others, are far away. It turns out she saw my photograph on my friend’s FB page and the rest …. well, you know. We’ve chatted many times. She a lovely woman.

She has mentioned that COVID has left her feeling very isolated and lonely. I believe she felt through this WWW of technology that there would be someone out there she could reach in order to feel connected. I suppose I was that one person.

Reach out and touch someone today, and during the this loneliest holiday season.

I hope the coming week is a peaceful and stressless one

Namaste, Isadora 😎

Author: Inside the Mind of Isadora

Intriguing, sensitive, mysterious, loving, artistic and crackling with excitement for life is a pretty good description of who I am. I just retired from the world of art where I sold my Artfully Designed Handmade Jewelry for 28 years; although, art will always be a part of who I am no matter what venue I choose to express it in.

  1. Thank you for sharing this lovely story and the encouragement to reach out to those who are lonely. There are so many, especially during this time. My elderly father is not a crying man, which is okay. The last time my sister visited him, we FB messenger chatted so we could see each other. He wept, so of course I cried. But, they were tears of joy. He is a friendly guy and loves to chat with neighbors, the postal person, the person at the store, anyone really. But, he has been isolated for his protection and … well you know. Keep smiling, Isadora. You really do have a nice one! And, keep reaching out to those who are lonely. Lovely!!

    • Socialization for seniors is part of their new world after retirement. Doing without it, is a big adjustment that doesn’t come easy as they get older. I’m happy you were able to FB chat with your Father. FB and Zoom seem to be excellent outlets for visual satisfaction. Let’s keep loving those we love until we have emptied our hearts to them. Thank you for taking the time to read my post. I’m pleased it was something you could relate with. Be Safe 😷 Isadora 😎

  2. Herbal tea for me, please … which will go well with your music. Thank you. This sentence set the stage – “It’s difficult to understand the magnitude of how far our words are going out there on the World Wide Web.” How true. I’m still smitten over the thought that I interact with people across the globe. Although I enjoy it, yet it still is hard to believe – yet it has affirmed my belief that the majority of the world is good. …. and the phone call you received is part of that too. Merry Christmas to you and yours!

    • I’ve baked some double chocolate walnut (white & dark chocolate combo) too. Have a few or take some home. 😊
I’ve met many, many wonderful people through the internet including you. I believe people are good and caring but the spoiled apples, just like the empty barrels, spoil it for others. Thanks for reading and visiting on this glorious day. Be Safe … 🎄2021 is going to bring fantastic adventures filled with hope and love.

  3. What a fascinating story, Issy! Since we moved at the end of March, I’ve been sending cards to friends and family as well as FaceTiming with our good friends back in Illinois. We’re also spending time with my parents who are mostly at home all the time. Many of their friends have passed away, so they would be a lot more isolated except for us. That’s the main reason we moved and it’s touching to see how much they enjoy the time we spend there and how appreciative they are.

    Merry Christmas!

    • I’m pleased you enjoyed reading this, Janet.
I’ve added letter writing and cards to my to do list. It does seem to help feel connected. I’m glad she felt comfortable enough to reach out during these internet cautious times. Living in Florida among people in the high age range, I see a lot of lonely, lonely seniors. Covid has made it all that much more intense. It’s a blessing when people are kind, caring and aware of how friends of seniors have passed on leaving a vacuum that difficult to fill when isolated. BRAVo for loving your parents enough to consider their feelings. Be Safe …
enjoy the spirit of Christmas today and all through the year. May your heart fill with a love that bonds and creates a fuller life for you and all you touch. Merry Merry 🙏🏻🎄🎅🤶😍😎

  4. I am so happy to hear that this call had a happy ending and you really cheered her up. That’s a wonderful gift to her, Isadora. I give her credit for reaching out to others when she was feeling lonely. Some people would just retreat. All the best in 2021!

    • Yes, Patti, that’s true. There are many, many lonely people that aren’t ZOOM knowledgable. I feel we need to do more for those who are alone. Our town holds a Christmas drive for the elderly who are in nursing homes and assisted living facilities. I love taking a few tags off of the trees they provide for anyone who wants to buy a gift. It’s a good way to share the holiday spirit with those who will be alone.
You enjoy these festive times, Safely …
Be of good spirit and cheer
Let’s be positive that 2021 will be the Grand Dame of glorious inspiring new adventures. Merry Merry … Isadora ❤️🎄🎅 🤶😊

  5. Oh that is a beautiful story about how technology led to a supper system and beautiful connection – we tend to hear so much about the natives of tech and well – cheers to this
